We were in that exact position when the door flung open, and Grey strode inside the room. He spotted us quickly. Noticing the expression on our faces, his lips pursed into a grim line. “What's wrong?” He asked as he pulled into a stop.
Celine and I looked at each other. As though we understood what each other was thinking, Celine rose on her feet. “I'll be outside so the two of you can talk.” She told me. When I nodded, she immediately left the room, leaving me alone with Grey.
Grey made no sound as he crossed the distance between us. In a matter of seconds, he reached my side and sat beside me on the sofa. “What happened?” He inquired. His gray eyes lingering on my face were filled with questions.
“The Doctor talked to me a while ago.” I replied in a barely audible whisper. With some difficulty, I continued, “He told me Mom’s not going to last long.” Tears clouded my vision when I finished the words.
