Chapter 101 GIVE UP

“You still love your ex-husband, don't you?” Cain Lawrence asked quietly. But the words sounded more of a statement than a question to me.

We were on our way home back to Phoenix Manor when Cain said his first word after leaving the fancy restaurant. He'd been noticeably quiet while we were dining. But despite his silence, I could feel him silently watching me while deep in his thoughts.

The remark rendered me speechless for a good thirty seconds. Finally recovering my scattered wits from the air, I slowly turned to him but Cain didn't look back. His intent eyes were focused on the highway while he drove.

“Why did you suddenly ask? I asked him back, wondering why he said the remark out of nowhere.

“Because I saw the way you look at your ex-husband when you thought I wasn't watching you.” He whispered. I caught the hint of pain in his voice. A sudden surge of guilt rushed inside me.

“Let's not talk about my ex-husband, Cain.” I pleaded. The topic makes me too uncomfortable.
