"I knew you’d come running once the walls started closing in," Leonard said, his voice oozing with smugness as I stepped into his office.
He leaned back in his chair, his fingers interlaced behind his head like he’d just won a chess match. "Gosh, you’re so predictable," he added, his smirk widening like he’d just cracked the Da Vinci Code.
I forced a nonchalant smile, though I could practically feel my blood boiling. I wasn’t here to give him the satisfaction of seeing me lose control.
“Why are you here, huh?” he asked, his tone laced with mockery as he leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk. “Let me guess, you finally realized you can’t win without me?”
“Leonard,” I said, keeping my voice steady as I placed my hands on his desk, “why do you take so much pleasure in making my life miserable?”
“Pleasure?” He feigned innocence, raising an eyebrow. “What are you even talking about?”
