Chapter 20

Emily tried to push him away, but her efforts were in vain. Her voice turned icy as she said, "Aren't you afraid Maria will find out?"

Nicholas stared at her with a cold, unyielding gaze. "That's none of your concern," he replied slowly, each word deliberate. "Just answer the question—yes or no."

Taking a deep breath, Emily met his gaze and answered firmly, "No."

Nicholas sneered, "So, it seems you're not as eager to divorce me as you claim."

Emily shot him a sharp look. "I don't need to stoop to this. You'll agree to the divorce eventually."

The determination in her eyes unsettled Nicholas, making him feel uneasy. His voice was cold as he responded, "Never!"

Suddenly, he released her and sat on the edge of the bed. "Get out," he ordered.

Without a word, Emily stood up and walked out of the room, not even glancing back. Once inside her own room, she slammed the door shut in frustration. "Damn you, Nicholas," she muttered, seething with anger.
