Emily’s expression didn’t waver as she finished applying the medicine. Tossing the cotton swab into the trash can, she looked up at him and said, "If you want, you can slap yourself twice. But falsely accusing me didn’t really hurt me. I don’t need to seek revenge for a few careless words."

With that, she packed up the medicine box, clearly ready to leave.

Nicholas caught her wrist, his voice rougher than intended. "Emily, are you staying here to look after me because you still have feelings?"

Emily’s brow furrowed, her confusion evident. "I think you're mistaken. You said yourself the car accident happened when you were on your way to notarize the divorce. I’m only here because I feel obligated."

After all, she reflected, he wouldn’t have been in that accident if it weren’t for the conflict with Dragon. That had its roots in her life.
