Nicholas’s gaze turned icy. "This is between her and me. I hope you won't interfere."
Meye's face drained of color, her voice rising in anger. "Nicholas, are you trying to drive me to the brink of madness? Do you have any idea how terrified I was when I heard about your paralysis? I nearly had a heart attack, and now you’re angry with me because of the person who caused your accident?!"
Nicholas’s eyes flashed with a colder intensity. "How did you find out about my car accident?"
He had specifically told them not to inform his parents, expecting them to learn only when his grandfather returned home. Meye averted her gaze, a hint of guilt crossing her face as she avoided meeting his eyes.
Nicholas's personality often leaned towards being reserved and timid, and Meye sensed the tension.
"It doesn’t matter where I heard it," she said defiantly. "I won’t allow you and Emily to continue this relationship, no matter what!"
