Emily’s shock turned to anger as she pushed against him harder, her fists pounding against his chest, but he didn’t let go. The elevator felt like it was spinning, her emotions a chaotic storm of rage, fear, and something she didn’t want to acknowledge.

When Nicholas finally pulled back, his breathing was ragged, and his gaze was locked onto hers. Emily’s chest heaved as she glared at him, her hand raising to slap him, but he caught her wrist mid-air.

"Don’t," he said, his voice low and rough. "You can hate me all you want, Emily. But you can’t deny what’s between us."
