Emily had managed a few rare, peaceful days. Since that night, there had been no news from Nicholas, and for once, her world felt quiet.
"Boss, Mr. Leo White is here. He says he’s your father."
Emily’s fingers froze mid-typing, her focus on the laptop screen dissolving as the name echoed in her ears. Her eyes snapped up to meet Liam’s, sharp and cold as a blade. The intensity of her gaze made Liam flinch.
Had he said something wrong? He had only passed on a message.
"I... I’ll tell him you’re busy," Liam stammered, backpedaling slightly, unsure what had triggered her sudden anger.
"Bring him," she said, her tone icy and commanding, leaving no room for argument.
Liam hesitated only a moment before nodding and hurrying out of the room.
As soon as he was gone, Emily leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes briefly in frustration. Why now? She had foolishly hoped they might leave her alone, but she should have known better. They wouldn’t let her live in peace. They never would.
