Emily froze mid-step, her teeth gritting. Taking a deep breath, she spun on her heel to face them.
"Me? Standing in your way?" Her voice was laced with mocking laughter, her eyes blazing with anger. "Maria, I vanished from Nicholas’s life for eight long years. And yet, here you are—still not a part of it. Why is that? Maybe it’s because he doesn’t care about you. He never did."
Maria’s face turned pale, her confidence faltering.
Emily pointed a finger at her, her tone low and warning. "And don’t you dare try to provoke me again. If you or your so-called family create any more problems for me, I won’t hold back. As for Nicholas... go ask him. I’m not the one chasing after him. He came back to me. So if you have a problem with that, take it up with him. But don’t you dare accuse me of chasing after a man I left behind long ago.”
