Nicholas carried her to the bathroom, his movements firm yet gentle, and after ensuring she was settled, he helped her back to the bed. Once she was comfortably lying down, he stepped back, his gaze unreadable. He knew she wouldn’t tell him anything, so he didn’t bother asking further questions.

He sat back in the chair, running a hand through his hair, a mixture of anger and helplessness etched on his face.

Emily she avoided looking at him directly. The tension in the room was palpable, and for a moment, neither of them spoke.

Breaking the silence, Nicholas leaned forward, his elbows on his knees, and said in a low, almost vulnerable tone, "Do you even realize what it feels like for me to see you like this, Emily? To keep finding you hurt, broken, and hiding things from me?"

Emily's heart clenched at his words, but she kept her expression neutral. "Nicholas, there are things you wouldn't understand. It's better this way."
