“Babe, calm down,” Nicholas said, glancing at her briefly before focusing back on the road. His voice was gentle, an attempt to soothe her. “I’m sure he’ll be fine.”
Nicholas didn’t know who Nikon was—this was the first time he had ever heard that name—but it wasn’t the moment to ask questions. All he cared about was comforting Emily and getting her to the hospital as quickly as possible.
He stole another glance at her. She was trembling, her hands gripping her phone so tightly it looked like it might break. He wanted to say something, anything, to ease her worry, but the look on her face told him that words wouldn’t help right now.
When they reached the hospital, Emily didn’t wait for the car to come to a full stop. She unbuckled her seatbelt and jumped out, running towards the entrance.
“Emily!” Nicholas called after her, quickly parking and following her inside.
