Elzan went to the West Village to get some information about the revenant.
He had heard that the revenant had come here and wanted to know details about that incident.
He went to the Sheriff's house. He knocked on the door, waiting for someone in response. Soon, a middle-aged woman opens the door.
Woman: "Can I help you, kid?"
Elzan: "I'm umm looking for the sheriff, ma'am…"
The woman turns around and calls for her husband, the sheriff.
Woman: "Wilson, honey, a kid at the door wants to meet you!"
The woman turns back at the boy and says…
Woman: "Wait here, kid…"
Elzan: "Certainly… but I'm not a kid…" (he says that last phrase in a whisper tone)
Soon, the sheriff came out.
Sheriff: "Oh… you must be Miss Gloria's grandson, pleased to meet you I'm Wilson, sheriff of West Village."
Elzan: "Pleased to meet you too, sir. My name is Elzan… wait, you know my grandmother?"
Elzan was a bit surprised to hear that the sheriff knows his grandmother.
Sheriff: "Of course… She was an old friend of mine… anyway, anyway… what's the matter kid, do you need help?"
Elzan: "No, it's just… there's something I want to ask you…"
Sheriff: "Sure son, just name it."
Elzan: "It's about…"
Elzan takes a deep breath and says it in a tone only the sheriff could hear.
Elzan: "The Revenant…"
After hearing that name, the sheriff's expression darkened instantly. He glanced around the area, as if making sure no one else was nearby, then took a slow step closer to Elzan.
Sheriff: "Son… that's not a name you should be saying out loud."
Elzan swallowed hard.
Elzan: "I'm here because I heard that he had come here and that you've met him…"
The sheriff immediately shushes Elzan by raising a firm hand. Elzan looks around in confusion.
Sheriff: "Don't say it out loud… The wall has ears…"
Elzan hesitated. Should he tell the sheriff the truth? That he had seen the revenant with his own eyes? That the legendary figure had saved him?
Before he could speak, the sheriff narrowed his eyes.
Sheriff: "Wait a second… you've seen him, haven't you?"
Elzan stiffened.
Elzan: "I…"
Sheriff: "Damn it, kid… Do you have any idea what this means?"
Elzan stayed silent, waiting. The sheriff looked at Elzan.
Sheriff: "Listen, kid… I've also seen the Revenant as well…"
Elzan: "I already knew, sir… That's why I'm here…"
Sheriff took a deep breath before speaking.
Sheriff: "You can't go around talking about it so casually… We never mentioned or talked about that incident ever since the next day after that night."
Elzan: "But I've seen him with my own eyes, I swear!"
Sheriff: "Then I think you should forget about what you saw on that day… And stop telling about this to everyone, alright? Believe me… Nothing good comes when it relates to him…"
Sheriff then grabs Elzan by his arm.
Sheriff: "I need you to leave… If this conversation goes on…"
Before the sheriff could finish his sentence, the sharp cawing of crows echoed from the outside.
Sheriff: "Please… Just leave… and remember not to mention that name out loud…"
Elzan doesn't want to leave. His curiosity grows as he wants to know more about the revenant. He wants to stay and press questions about the revenant. But looking at the facial expression of Sheriff Wilson, he seems so afraid… There's something not right about it, as he thought. Elzan sighed as he had no choice but to agree to leave.
As he walked by the path to the East Village, his thoughts were a whirlwind. The sheriff's words kept echoing in his mind, but no matter how much he tried to push them aside, the questions he wanted to ask remained in his head.
While he was walking down a narrow street, he saw the sheriff pass from the corner. Elzan was confused. He might be seeing the wrong person, but he decided to follow to see if what he saw was true or not.
