Chapter 14: Attack on Shindai

Shindai was sleeping in his tent, but after half an hour, he woke up immediately.

Because Shindai was extremely hungry.

He reached into his pocket, but found nothing except a scroll containing Shinmugetsu's seals.

"I should've brought a few soldier pills... I'm starving... Am I a prisoner now, or what? But looking at Minato's attitude, he should be willing to give me some food, right?"

Shindai stood up and walked out of the tent.

"Huh? Where is everyone? There's no one around? The guards are really lax!"

...

Inside Minato's tent.

A ninja who had been secretly observing Shindai under Minato's orders arrived at Minato's tent.

"Lord Minato, the prisoner left his tent, but his behavior is strange!"

Minato immediately asked, "What kind of strange behavior?"

"He's calling out 'Is anyone there?' It seems like he's looking for us. We didn't dare to act hastily, so we immediately reported it to Lord Minato."

Upon hearing the ninja's report, Minato's gaze sharpened slightly.

After a brief pause, Minato decided, "Oishi, disguise yourself as an Iwa ninja and pretend to take him away. If he refuses to come with you, attack him, but don't kill him."

Oishi accepted the order and left the tent to carry out the mission.

Minato said to Kakashi and the others, "Follow me, but make sure to stay hidden!"

"Yes, Minato-sensei!"

...

Shindai shouted outside the tent for a long time but received no response.

Shindai frowned. "What's going on? This is the Konoha camp, right? The guards shouldn't be this lax..."

"Although they might suspect me, thinking I'll try to gather intel about Konoha's ninjas and thus placed me on the outskirts, I was captured, so they should at least assign a few guards outside my tent, just for appearances, right?"

"This is really disrespectful... Or is it... they already trust me enough to not need guards?"

Shindai was puzzled.

It's too soon for them to trust him, right?

"Forget it, I'll put this aside for now."

Shindai planned to summon a ninja hawk and contact the Sand's Third Kazekage to request a change of undercover agents.

If he had to do undercover work and fight, Shindai might as well return to Sunagakure.

Plus, Shindai had no idea how to gain Minato's trust and get into Konoha.

The pressure was too much for Shindai; he felt like his hair was falling out.

Shindai didn't want to go bald at such a young age.

Just as Shindai was about to walk a bit further, a figure suddenly appeared in front of him.

At first, Shindai thought it was a Konoha ninja who had come in response to his calls.

But when Shindai saw who it was, his pupils contracted sharply.

The person in front of him was wearing an Iwa ninja headband.

Oishi had wrapped his face tightly, leaving only his eyes exposed.

With his mouth covered by cloth, Oishi spoke in a muffled tone, "You're the bloodline limit ninja traded by Sunagakure. Come with me now."

Shindai stared in disbelief at the Iwa ninja in front of him.

Is Iwa out of their minds? Sending a ninja to Konoha to find him? Don't they know Minato is here?!

Shindai suddenly looked to the left. "Huh? Minato-sensei, you're here!"

Oishi instinctively looked to the left.

But there was no one there. When Oishi turned back, Shindai was already running toward the Konoha camp.

Hidden in the shadows, Kakashi saw Shindai running toward the Konoha camp and confirmed, "It looks like sensei was right. His target is most likely us, Konoha."

Obito asked in confusion, "Huh? Is that confirmed?"

Kakashi analyzed, "First, no one was guarding him. He left the tent and called out for our ninjas. When an 'Iwa ninja' came to take him away, he didn't go with them, but instead ran toward the Konoha camp.

That means he doesn't want to go back to Sunagakure, nor does he want to go to Iwa, so his target must be Konoha."

Obito speculated, "But... maybe he really is defecting?"

Kakashi rolled his eyes. "You're so naive. Defecting? Think about it. He was just captured yesterday. It's impossible for him to defect so quickly. And if it were you, would you do what he did? Yell for help in an unfamiliar place, especially in a Konoha camp, where his village isn't exactly friendly with us?"

Obito thought for a moment, then shook his head. "No, I wouldn't."

Minato agreed, "Kakashi's analysis is correct. It seems this kid's goal is to approach us in Konoha. Now we need to see his strength. He's a genius, according to what we've seen in his memory."

Oishi realized that Shindai was heading toward the Konoha camp and immediately understood that Shindai was trying to gather people.

But... as a Sunagakure ninja, wasn't it a bit too much for Shindai to try and rally Konoha ninjas against him?

"Earth Style: Earth Flow Wall!"

Oishi formed hand seals and pressed his hands to the ground, raising a wall of earth to block Shindai's path.

"Earth Style: Earth Shatter Palm!"

Oishi concentrated chakra into his palm and slammed the ground, causing the earth to crack and attack Shindai.

But Shindai just kept dodging, showing no signs of fighting back.

Oishi kept attacking, and Shindai kept running.

Since he wasn't familiar with the Konoha camp, Shindai slowly got farther away, entering a forest.

Oishi kept chasing him relentlessly.

Meanwhile, Minato, along with Kakashi and the others, continued observing the battle from a distance.

Obito saw that Shindai was only running away and felt a bit smug. "Is that it? Sensei, you must be wrong. That guy is just running. His strength must be weak!"

Minato sternly disagreed, "No, Oishi is an elite chunin. If he were weak, do you think he could escape for so long while being chased by Oishi?"

Kakashi also looked serious. "That's right. He's definitely panicking and looks disorganized, but every time, he avoids Oishi's attacks. But... why isn't he fighting back? There's no one here except us. If he wanted to hide his strength, he wouldn't need to hide it here."

Minato focused on Shindai, who was using the trees as cover to keep dodging. "According to what we saw in his memory, he's afraid of fighting."

That's right, Shindai was scared. He didn't want to risk his life. Fighting meant danger.

So, Shindai ran as much as he could, avoiding risks.

But now...

Shindai was surrounded by several earth walls and had nowhere to run.
