Chapter 16: Struggling to be worthy

Felix ran, alongside the other guild hopefuls. He was lagging in the middle, and he wondered, why was Edward running next to him when he could impress the instructor? The orc was leading them on their twentieth lap around the arena, and Felix felt like he would drop.

Slowly, he began to fall behind. His legs weren't listening to him. Even as he tried to shoo away the black spots from his vision, he felt a hand reach out towards his, and take a hold of him.

Edward was smiling so softly, Felix's breath caught in his throat. He wanted, more than anything, to make Edward proud of him. But they were now the last in the line, and there was no changing that fact.

"Ok, everyone, stop," Bael, the orc, said, and the line almost collapsed in on itself. "What have you learned?"
