A soft cough broke the silence. Elder Xiao Jian cleared his throat, silver brows slightly raised as he reminded them of their location—the Patriarch’s residence. 


Xiao Rongyu flinched and quickly offered a respectful bow. “S-Sorry, I didn’t mean any disrespect…” she whispered, nervously glancing at Xiao Chen. 


But Xiao Chen merely shrugged, as if it had nothing to do with him. 


“Leave them be, Elder Jian,” Patriarch Xiao Hao said with a faint smile. “You don’t often see Chen’er expressing emotion like this… do you?” His voice grew softer, almost a whisper. “He’s usually detached… not like he used to be…”
