As if enraged by the impending clash, the heavens churned above, dark clouds rolling in to form a canopy of fury. Lightning snaked across the sky, casting strobing shadows over the battlefield below. 


Each movement was deliberate—measured. Though the earth trembled and beasts of titanic might battled before him, his breathing remained calm. Shadow Edge pulsed in his grip, the blade’s obsidian surface drawing in the ambient spiritual energy like a black star. 


Across the clearing, the Bloodfrenzy Goregutt Bison snorted, its breath steaming with molten heat. Its crimson eyes locked onto him, recognizing—somehow—that the boy before it was not prey, but a rival. 


The Skypaws Lynx struck first. With a screeching howl, it blurred into motion, wind and lightning lashing like twin blades. It darted past the Bison and charged furiously at Xiao Chen, the intruder who had just disrupted its battle.
