Now alone in the living room with the detective, Mr. Langley took a deep breath and stared at the young man in the eyes.
"Is it true?" He asked, gesturing for Manchester to sit on the couch opposite him.
"She left without a reason?"
"Oh, that!" Manchester let out a faint smile. This isn't a subject he'd love to discuss with anyone, and the only reason he mentioned it in the first place was to prove to the butler that he could relate to the hurt he felt on the inside.
"I'd rather not bother you with it, sir," He added before taking his seat and stapling both fingers together,
"And your son?" Asked Mr. Langley,
"Where is he?"
Now, Manchester doesn't mind the show of concern, but he wishes that Langley would read his body language and end this conversation or at least change the subject.
"I left him at the daycare," he lied
"I'll pick him up on my way home."
Mr. Langley soon noticed that Manchester had no interest in proceeding with this conversation, and he understood. It was either because the detective liked to keep it professional, or he only trusted a few people to talk about it with. Regardless of what the reason might be, Mr Langley could see the hurt in the young man's eyes, hinting that there was a lot more to the story.
"Well." He said, sitting up,
"Permit me to invite you to my wife's dinner tomorrow evening. Just come around with your son if you want, we have nannies in the manor that would look after him for you."
"I'm afraid I have to decline, sir," Manchester replied briskly, knowing that he had a lot more to deal with than this birthday dinner. However, Mr. Langley remains persuasive.
"Oh, you have to attend, Mr. Detective. Kearsley! Please give Mr. Detective an invitation card," he ordered one of the maids,
"I don't want them stopping him at the entrance tomorrow because he will certainly attend."
"Mr. Langley, I..." Before he could finish his words, the old man cut him off.
"Look here, Mr. Detective, I've been married for twenty-seven years, and when my wife travels, I feel like a helpless baby. If she leaves me tomorrow... I am most likely going to do what my butler just did to her new lover. Even worse."
Mr. Langley lowered his voice so that it was barely above a whisper,
"Pretend I never said that."
Manchester chuckled as he listened to the old man, he had quite an attitude.
"So I understand that you might be sulking all night in your bedroom, looking for some random pills to cool off your head... do you drink or smoke?" He asked, and Manchester nodded his head to indicate that he drinks once in a while.
"My point is, just come out a little and try to take your mind off it for a while. I am sure that whatever the problem is will be sorted in no time."
Manchester forced yet another smile on his face and said,
"Thank you, sir, I appreciate your encouragement."
"So I will be expecting you," said Langley as the maid handed the invitation over to Manchester.
"5pm or later, depending on what time you can make it."
"No problem, sir, I will see to it."
Manchester had no choice but to accept the invitation as long as it would stop the man from speaking about this any further. He has concluded that the only person that understands him is himself, these advice were like noises to his ears.
A few minutes passed, and Emma finally returned to the living room with the necklace neatly locked away in its glass casing. Manchester had never seen a jewellery more beautiful; the framework was a masterpiece, and every detail and diamond placement was perfect. Giving this to anyone is sure to make them pass out, it is no wonder why there are only two in the world.
"There it is." Mr. Langley smiled,
"It was in the manor the whole time."
"It looks beautiful," Manchester commented as he stood up because he was ready to leave.
"I am very sure that your wife would love it."
"She would!" Said Langley, nodding his head with a sense of pride.
"Now that my job is done, I'll take my leave."
Manchester shook hands with Langley and smiled at Emma before exiting the manor, escorted by one of the guards. In no time, he was seated in the car, resting his back on the seat and letting out a long sigh.
"Well, that is over." He said.

It may not have been the biggest amount In the world, and even though most of it would go to the hospital for Nelson's treatment, Manchester was still thankful.
"This is more than I earn a month," he said,
"I don't even mind earning this amount for every case. Once I've cleared Nelson's hospital bills, I can face the man's car. He's not even willing to negotiate with me." Manchester sighed.
Deep down, he was happy with how much he had received, but overthinking wouldn't give him a chance to celebrate, not even with a smile.
"You can drop me off at the hospital if you don't mind," he said to the driver, who nodded his head before starting the car.
"Maybe, just maybe, I can win you back home, Mel."
