Chapter 33

Kazuki had passed Daisy's little "examination." Combined with the effects of the Adult Poké Ball, her affection for him was now showing signs of surpassing Misty's.

By the next day's farewell, she was no longer playing coy—she was pitching straight fastballs.

"Misty, be careful out there! Don't just train your Pokémon—you need to train your relationship, too!" Daisy gave Misty a look full of implications.

Misty glanced nervously at Kazuki, cheeks turning bright red. "Sis, w-we don't really have that kind of relationship yet…"

"Exactly! That's why you need to pick up the pace. If you don't work hard, your big sis might swoop in! My future happiness depends on you, little Misty!"

"Wha—Huh?!" Misty stammered, utterly flustered. She tugged Daisy aside and whispered, "Daisy! Weren't you questioning Kazuki's character just the other day?"

"Why are you suddenly acting like you're all for him now?"

Daisy smiled and gave Kazuki a meaningful glance. "Because I already tested him. He passed."

"Wh-what test?! When did this happen?! Why don't I know about it?!" Misty looked between the two, completely bewildered.

"Alright, alright! Here's your travel gear and allowance." Daisy handed Misty her pack.

"And here's yours too, Kazuki."

"Huh? Why are you giving Kazuki a travel fund too?!" Misty protested—not over the money, but the implications.

"Oh, come on. We're practically family now. No need to fuss over something like that."

"F-family?!" Daisy's words left Misty spinning in shock.

After a few quick parting words, Daisy gave them a cheerful push to get on the road.

As they walked out of Cerulean City, Misty kept stealing glances at Kazuki.

Eventually, she couldn't hold back. "So… what's going on between you and Daisy?"

Kazuki just brushed it off with a vague reply.

Misty puffed up her cheeks and crossed her arms, sulking in silence.

But it didn't last long. Her naturally cheerful nature bubbled back up, and soon she was chatting and teasing Kazuki as usual.

Having left Cerulean, Kazuki now set his sights on Vermilion City.

Since he hadn't yet triggered the Gym challenge there, he took the chance to go over his quest logs and pending rewards.

Plenty of quests lined up—but most required the right timing, so no need to rush.

That Romance Side Mission, though… he'd better speed that one up. He had already burned an Adult Poké Ball and needed to make up for it.

Kazuki opened his system backpack for a quick inventory check:

[Inventory]

- Adult Poké Ball ×1

- Health Biscuit ×1

- Everstone ×1

- Mystic Water ×1

- Moon Stone ×1

- Water Stone ×1

- Metal Coat ×1

The Mystic Water would clearly go to a Water-type for power boosts.

But the Everstone?

No evolution allowed?

None of his current Pokémon seemed like good candidates:

---

[Pokémon Team]

- Pikachu (Lv16 – holding Light Ball)

- Pidgeotto (Lv30 – holding Sharp Beak)

- Butterfree (Lv16)

- Clefairy (Lv25)

---

Pikachu and Clefairy both needed stones to evolve. Butterfree was already fully evolved. Pidgeotto would eventually need his Mega Stone.

So… the Everstone would just sit in storage for now.

After organizing his thoughts, Kazuki noticed several Trainers battling along the roadside.

"Whoa! This route is really lively! Kazuki, I want to go battle too!"

Since leaving Cerulean, Misty had truly doubled down on her training—just like she'd promised.

Maybe watching her three sisters fumble in battle had lit a fire under her.

"Hey, we're on land, you sure you're up for this?"

"Pfft! Don't underestimate me! I'll get a ten-win streak and prove it to you!"

That tsundere spark was back in full force as Misty ran off, fired up and ready to throw down.

"A ten-win streak? Heh…" Kazuki laughed, shaking his head.

Just then, a familiar ding rang out from the system.

[Ding…]

A new mission has been triggered…
