The trees whispered warnings. The sky, once gold with afternoon sun, had dimmed to an eerie gray. A low growl slithered through the silence.
"They're here." Kairo's voice was calm, but firm.
Reika's heart thudded—not in fear, but anticipation.
From the fog emerged the beasts—four massive demon wolves, eyes glowing like hot embers, fangs dripping with black venom. Their snarls echoed like the Devil's trumpet.
Farl cracked her knuckles. "Finally."
The first wolf lunged. Farl met it head-on, delivering a crushing blow to its snout with her forearm—but the beast was faster. It ducked under and sank its teeth into her shoulder.
Blood spurted. Farl didn't scream—she growled.
Reika's instincts screamed. His pulse roared in his ears. Without thinking, his hand flared with heat. A surge of red and black Ren ignited in his palm—
FWOOOOOSH!
The wolf burst into flames, shrieking in agony. The fire curled unnaturally—black licking the edges, unnatural and alive.
Everyone stopped.
Even the wolves.
Kairo's eyes narrowed. "That… isn't normal Ren."
Reika's breathing was ragged, the flames still crackling faintly around his fingers. He shook it off, trying to play it cool.
Mira blinked. "That was… so hot. Like—literally and otherwise."
Kairo stepped forward. "Demon wolves only respond to demon fire… or an immense concentration of Ren." He turned slowly toward Reika. "You're not just some newbie, are you?"
Reika avoided his gaze. "I… don't know what you're talking about."

After the Fight
They walked back to the base. The sun had dipped beneath the horizon.
Mira clung to Reika's side like seaweed to rock. "You were so brave out there. Like, you saved Farl and just—boom! Fire hands!"
Reika scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "It wasn't a big deal…"
Mira leaned in, her hand sliding down his arm. "It was. You're different. I like that."
High above, hidden in the shadows of a rooftop, Vivi watched.
Her eye twitched.
"Nope. Not today."
She leapt from the roof, landing with perfect elegance between Reika and Mira.
"Hey, sweetie." Vivi looped her arm into Reika's, eyes locked on Mira. "Kaien and Zariel are back. They wanna talk about… that thing."
Reika blinked. "Thing?"
Vivi leaned close, twirling a strand of hair. "You know… that thing."
Reika's eyes widened. "Ohhh—that thing."
Mira clung tighter. "Do you really have to go now? I was hoping we could hang out more…" Her voice dropped, sultry. "Be back early tomorrow, okay?"
Reika froze. Her hug was… nice. Warm. Confusing. But also?
Weirdly comforting.
"Of course." he muttered.

The Cabin – Later That Night
The fire crackled. Kaien sat by the window, arms crossed. Zariel stood, gaze focused on Reika.
"There's no way a demon that strong got in alone."
Reika's stomach dropped.
"We found traces of a hidden path—old glyphs and writings." Kaien added. "Ancient stuff. Stuff that's not in any modern book."
Zariel turned. "Someone on the inside helped him. Maybe not recently—maybe centuries ago. But someone erased it from history."
Reika clenched his fist.
"So… someone wanted the walls breached. On purpose?"
Zariel's eyes glinted. "That's what we're going to find out."
And somewhere in the back of his mind, Reika heard a whisper.
Not from Kaien.
Not from Zariel.
But from inside.
"Let me out next time. Let me burn everything."

Kairo sharpens his blade in the dark, eyes like he wanted blood, muttering:
"Reika… what the hell are you? If you're a threat, I will end you myself."
