Chapter 31: Second Night

With Nothing's help, Lucifer had successfully placed all the wooden stakes in the eight holes that Nothing had dug before the sky darkened.

Each person was in charge of four holes, which greatly accelerated their progress.

Then, they deliberately covered the holes with a layer of leaves, so that the monsters wouldn't notice these deadly traps and would fall for it immediately.

After finishing everything, all Lucifer and Nothing had to do was wait for the monsters or harmless animals to fall into their trap and die.

Right now, Lucifer and Nothing were sitting on the same tree branch as yesterday, looking up at the starry sky that was like a mysterious black carpet, dotted with thousands of sparkling gems.

Lucifer ate his apple while admiring the beauty of the night sky. Since Lucifer had been working so hard today and had lost a lot of energy, it was obvious that an apple was not enough to fill his hungry stomach.

But at least Lucifer had something to eat.

Each piece of red, crispy, sweet, juicy apple gently slid across the tip of his tongue and down to his stomach, making the surrounding space seem to awaken, bringing a fresh and refreshing feeling.

Lucifer and Nothing enjoyed every bite of the apple they ate, not knowing that these apples were very poisonous.

"Hey Lucifer, what should we do tomorrow?" Nothing asked.

Since there was nothing to do in this forest, or rather this island, Nothing could only talk to Lucifer to relieve his boredom.

"Tomorrow we will hunt some monsters or animals to get some meat to eat. You miss the taste of meat too, right?"

"Of course! I'm willing to do anything to eat meat."

"Me too, so tomorrow we have to try to hunt a lot of animals or monsters to get meat from them."

The conversation flowed peacefully without anyone cursing. Partly because they didn't want to wake up the monsters in the forest, and partly because it seemed like the relationship between Lucifer and Nothing had become closer.

"Hey Lucifer, how should we divide the guard duty tonight?" Nothing asked, his eyes looking a little dazed and tired.

But that was easy to understand since he had stayed up all night yesterday, and Nothing had been doing a lot of work today as well. It was understandable that he felt sleepy by now.

But what made Lucifer feel confused and surprised was that he didn't expect Nothing to need to sleep like a normal human.

Lucifer had thought that Nothing was some kind of entity that didn't need to sleep at all, but it turned out that it wasn't, as if Nothing was actually a human.

"Are you sleepy? If so, then you can go to sleep first and let me keep watch. But I'll call you later."

Just waiting for that, Nothing immediately laid down on the hollow branch that was large and wide enough to hold his entire body and fell asleep right there.

His lungs kept inflating and deflating, and his mouth kept smiling, probably because he was dreaming of something entertaining. His body shivered from the cold night air, but Lucifer couldn't do anything to warm him up.

With no one left to talk to, Lucifer had no choice but to lean against the massive tree trunk and continue to gaze at the starry sky.

The dim light of the stars twinkled gently and elegantly, like the whispers of the universe echoing in the silence.

An hour had passed, but for some reason, Lucifer felt extremely comfortable and extremely sleepy. It was as if he was in a place that resembled heaven.

His vision began to blur due to the irresistible drowsiness, his mind felt as if it had been freed from the burdens of life.

For some reason, Lucifer felt as if he was no longer afraid of the Half Horse Half Wolf he saw yesterday, he could even look straight into its eyes without feeling afraid.

'The scary thing isn't the monsters, it's this damn island…'

Wait, what the hell was Lucifer thinking? Why did he suddenly think that? Is this island the scariest thing? What's going on?

Hundreds of questions kept popping up in Lucifer's mind, but Lucifer was too relaxed to care about them. He just wanted to sleep, wanted to die…

Lucifer was dead.

Opening his eyes again, Lucifer realized that the sun was about to reach its zenith. He had slept for a very long time, probably because he was too tired yesterday.

For some reason, the painful blister on Lucifer's hand was gone, it had completely healed even though only a day had passed. Lucifer couldn't help but feel confused, but since it was a good thing, he quickly ignored it.

Nothing had once again crawled back into Lucifer's shadow. When Lucifer summoned Nothing out, he was still sleeping soundly while hugging the wooden spear like a body pillow, he was even sucking on the tip of his thumb.

What was this called? The soul of a child in an adult body?

"Wake up Nothing, it's morning, or rather, it's almost noon."

Lucifer tried to wake Nothing up, but it seemed like waking him up gently didn't work on this guy.

Feeling annoyed, Lucifer instantly kicked Nothing from the tree branch to the ground, thanks to which Nothing woke up instantly.

He yawned tiredly a few times and looked at Lucifer with innocent eyes.

'Oh right, this guy didn't even wake up on time to stand guard in my stead. But never mind, at least he won't know that I fell asleep while on guard.'

Since Lucifer no longer needed to drink seawater, he decided to turn this beach into a bathhouse, a spacious bath house without walls or doors.

This was an open-air bathhouse.

'It would be nice if some girls could bathe with me, but it's a pity that the one I'm bathing with is a man, and worse yet, that guy is Nothing…'

Lucifer thought as he soaked in the cool and refreshing water, the gentle waves gently brushing past as if soothing Lucifer's skin under the cozy sunlight.

Suddenly, Lucifer felt quite curious about the taste of seawater. Owen had told him that seawater was very salty, but he had never drunk seawater before so he didn't know what it tasted like.

Hesitating a bit, Lucifer still decided to take a small sip of seawater into his mouth.

'It's really salty…'
