The Longest Night

Alaric hasn't moved in hours. Lenore hasn't either, but she's unconscious. Her stillness isn't a choice. It's a consequence. A byproduct of a plot he hasn't started trying to figure out yet. All he knows is that it was senseless. Lenore is one of a dozen attendees poisoned. But so far, Alaric hasn't figured out a link between those affected. Not that he's tried.

He's busy watching his wife's chest rise and fall ever so slightly with every breath, holding onto this proof that she's still alive.

The physicians promised that they would analyze the poison and find an antidote as soon as possible.

Alaric doesn't know how many hours have passed since then. Too many.
