Chapter 13: Saving Someone

Cail had no idea that he was tricked or that there had been an argument after he left. Before he could even contemplate what to do with the artifacts he had on hand, he suddenly encountered a problem.

"Fuck, how do I get this out! That Bram was a patient zero!" he cursed. The moment that mouth finally latched into his body, he managed to gain his ability to move other than walking.

The stomach now transferred from his back to his stomach. He looked down and felt awful.

Although he felt sick thinking about the parasite in his body, he really didn't feel much panic since his glasses didn't seem to be useless in this situation.

He could see numerous strings connected to the parasite in his stomach floating around. He touched the string with one of his hands. It felt like ordinary thread.

Cail gathered all the strings in his hand and yanked them all in one pull.

"Ugh!" He felt dizzy. He could feel that something inside his body was getting pulled out, but at the same time, that something seemed to be gripping tightly on his soul. Lightheadedness assaulted his senses. He gripped the thread hard and didn't give up on pulling the parasite out of his body despite the discomfort.

After what felt like forever, he finally managed to pull the mouth out. It's now dangling from his hands as he is holding it by the thread. Cail didn't know what he expected, but the mouth kept twitching and was struggling to get out. It was strong. Cail had to use a huge amount of force to restrain it from wriggling out of his grasp.

"What do I do with this?" He couldn't help but feel exasperated looking at the squirming creature in his hand.

He just held it and rode on his motorcycle. He had stopped a distance away from the park to deal with this parasite. Now, it seemed like he should also be dealing with the cleanup.

Driving with one hand, he couldn't help but say, "I'm really playing with my life here." His head was still aching from the glasses. Yes, he was still seeing those oversaturated colors around him; he did not turn the glasses off because he feared he might no longer see the strings of this mouth in his hands.

"Goodness, should I just throw this away somewhere?" He didn't think there was a good way to dispose of this thing. He had tried killing it, but it just kept biting his hand.

He drove to the sketchy part of the city and made his way to the quiet alleys. He had an idea as to what he was looking for but wasn't sure if it was gonna work.

He was now in the dark part of the city. People called this the 'Lawless Slums.' Basically, illegal transactions such as drugs, human trafficking, gambling, and sexual prostitution were rampant in the area.

Cail felt even worse when he smelled the scent of pee wafting on the air. It wasn't just the strong smell of pee, it was mixed with other unknown smells that were just as strong as the pee smells. Garbage, needles, cotton, spoons, random shorts, shoes, and even knives were just sitting on the road.

Cail felt like he was playing minesweeper by avoiding the sharp tools on the ground. Fortunately, despite these glasses giving him a headache, they helped in avoiding getting his tires popped.

Although there were areas that were bustling with people here in the Lawless Slums, Cail wanted to go to the secluded part where human trafficking deals were rampant. How did he know? That was a story for another day.

He was finding gold, but he found diamonds. Looking at what was happening in the distance, Cail felt that he was given an opportunity by the God.

A man wearing a suit was lying on the ground. His body was filled with blood. He was glaring at the man who was standing right in front of him.

In front of him was a man dressed like he just came out of an anime cosplay conference dressed as a druid. Well, it's not right to describe it as a druid, but it was similar enough. He was wearing what seemed like a tribal dress. It was a robe filled with... human teeth? Cail wasn't sure, but once his eyes glanced at the headdress the man was wearing, he was finally certain because on his head was a human skull. Its jaw was missing.

Cail could see that the man kept releasing a foul black smoke around him. It smelled like rot and decay.

That wasn't a good sign. Cail had sensed those students' auras on the plaza after turning on his glasses. They had different attributes, but they all felt very natural.

"No good guy would wear a human skull headdress," he murmured. "I choose you!"

...

The man wearing a skull headdress had no idea that his end was nearing. He was just very happy about getting the job done.

"Biron Vexley, I guess you never thought that you'd be in this situation. You shouldn't have messed with the wrong people," the man wearing a skull headdress said smugly.

Of course, who wouldn't be smug after trampling Biron Vexley under their feet? That was the young prince of a reclusive rich family.

Biron looked very unwilling. A month ago, he had already known that someone was after his life. He did everything and was cautious about everyone, but he still failed to consider that his enemy seemed to have hired someone with supernatural abilities.

Living on the top of the social hierarchy for a very long time, he had heard of those Void Wanderers. His family, despite having money, knew that money is useless on the other side. They wanted to hire those Void Wanderers, but those people seemed to look down on money.

It was rather sad that he, a person who was held in high regards the moment he was born, was now going to die in the slums.

His body was riddled with holes. He could see his intestines spilling out on the ground. Since there was no hope, he might as well end it all. But the man with the skull headdress seemed to enjoy his slow death.

Then, suddenly, the two of them heard the sound of a motorcycle.

Vroom Vroom.

Both of them looked at the direction of the sound. They saw a man dressed in all black, wearing a helmet, rushing towards them.

The man's intrusion was so sudden that the man in the headdress was a bit slow to react.

...

Cail threw the mouth parasite on the unsettling looking man.

At first, the man did not react. Then, after the parasite latched into his stomach, he suddenly screamed.

"Ahhhrgggg!" He could feel something digging on his insides. He panted. He could feel his innate void getting sucked out. This is bad, he thought. I need to do something.

His hand suddenly turned into claws. He dug into his stomach in an attempt to take the thing that was burrowing itself inside.

Cail stopped and widened his eyes. He saw how the man in the headdress changed in just a matter of seconds.

First, he was just a healthy middle-aged man with yellow teeth and bloodshot eyes. Now, Cail could see that the parasite inside sucked the life out of him. Like literally sucked. It reminded Cail of vacuum-dried food. What was supposed to be an ordinary man suddenly turned into a dried twig.

The man managed to pull the mouth out of his stomach, but what was left behind was a huge hole.

Cail was shaken after seeing how the man managed to get the parasite out.

My discomfort was a piece of cake compared to this.

If he was complaining before about the discomfort of removing the parasite, he's now very content of the process after seeing how brutal this man manage to get it out.
