Chapter 24: Killing in the Shadows

After a short rest for the night, Ian and Wang Wei once again set foot on the road to the center area.

The jungle was foggy in the early morning, and the sunlight fell on the ground through the gaps in the dense forest, creating an eerie and quiet atmosphere. The two of them silently lightened their footsteps, always on the alert for possible threats in the surroundings.

Not far from the center of the hunting ground, the two suddenly heard the sound of violent fighting and the roar of mutant creatures from the distance.

Ian quickly exchanged a glance with Wang Wei, and the two exchanged silent comments as they quickly approached the direction from which the sounds were coming from, quietly concealing themselves in the dense bushes to observe.

In the center of the jungle clearing, a young man was fighting alone, surrounded by a large number of ferocious mutants. This man had an upright figure and a resolute face, holding a long spear in his hand, with a cold light flashing on its head, and his figure was as swift as the wind, obviously possessing extremely superior fighting skills.

Wang Wei's eyes lit up slightly, and whispered to Ian: ''I know that person, his name is Abel, he is another member of the Brotherhood's inner circle, and his strength is very strong, how about we go and give him a hand? One more person is one more strength."

Ian didn't respond immediately, but instead turned on his Insect Senses Enhancement and carefully observed his surroundings. His field of vision instantly became exceptionally clear, and the movements around him were visible in every detail.

Right at this moment, he was keenly aware that someone seemed to be lurking in another direction in the distance as well.

Ian warned in a low voice, "There's no rush, there are still people watching nearby, they may have some plans."

Wang Wei frowned slightly, then gently nodded his head as the two of them continued to observe covertly without making any rash moves.

Abel in the field appeared unusually calm despite being in danger. The lance in his hand danced densely, swiftly and powerfully, and every stab of the lance accurately penetrated the mutant beast's vital points. Combined with his own Ice Ability, he was always able to condense an ice shield to block the attacks of the mutant beasts in critical moments.

However, the number of mutant beasts was simply too many, gradually forcing Abel's movements to become tired. Cold sweat oozed from his forehead, and his breathing gradually shortened.

"It seems like he can't hold out much longer, if we don't make a move, he might really be in danger." Wang Wei said somewhat anxiously.

Ian, however, remained calmly observing, he could clearly see that the figure hidden not far away was gradually approaching where Abel was, his eyes revealing a hint of obvious killing intent. "Don't move yet, that person is starting to approach."

Finally, as Abel fought to kill the last mutant beast once again, and as he exhaustedly propped his lance against the ground to catch his breath, the hidden figure quickly struck.

A black-clothed young man leapt out from the shadows like a ghost, his hand flashed with a strange purple light, and his ability was clearly a poison system ability, only to see him quickly approaching Abe, and his palm fiercely slapped at Abe's back.

Abel turned around alertly, but he was ultimately one step too slow, and was struck in the chest by the poisonous palm print, and instantly purple-black toxins spread rapidly along the wound.

"You!" An incredulous look appeared in Abel's eyes, and with great difficulty, he looked up at his sneak attacker, his voice trembling and angry, "Luis, why!"

Louis revealed a grim smile, his tone was cold and contemptuous, "Abel, I'm sorry, I can't miss such a good opportunity, there can only be one winner, this trial is destined to have only the strong survive to the end."

Abel's face was pale and his lips gradually turned purple, he barely supported his body and said angrily and sadly, "Do you think ... that the Brotherhood will really accept a ... sinister villain like you? "

Louis sneered and shrugged, "As long as I am strong enough, they will naturally accept it."

Abel finally couldn't support himself and fell to his knees, his lance slipping out of his hand as his life force rapidly drained away.

Wang Wei saw this scene from afar and looked shocked and angry, "Louis, this bastard, actually used such a despicable tactic!"

Ian reminded in a low voice, "Remember this scene in front of us, we must be more careful."

At this moment, Louis in the field seemed to have sensed that someone was nearby, his gaze was like a viper as he looked around, and his voice said grimly, "Who's watching the show? Not showing up yet?"

Ian and Wang Wei held their breath and did not make any rash moves. After a few moments, Louis seemed to feel that there was nothing out of the ordinary and turned around to leave quickly.

"Let's move on, but we must be more cautious, as you can see, humans are more dangerous than mutant beasts." Ian said in a serious tone.

They resumed their journey to the central area, constantly increasing their vigilance on the way.

On the way, Wang Wei suddenly asked in a low voice, "Ian, what do you think of this approach by the Brotherhood?"

Ian was silent for a moment and slowly replied, "In a world like this, the Brotherhood's way may be effective, but it is by no means what I want. What I want to see is to support each other, not kill each other, if everyone kills each other for their so-called interests, sooner or later, humanity will be destroyed."
