I Know Your Secret!

Lila's POV

{Kelsey's Residence. 4:30 PM}

It was the first time I saw mommy like that. Mommy is gentle and hardly talks back at anybody. But this time was different.

Those two must have hurt mommy in the past.

While we headed back in the car, she didn't say a word. Her eyes were fixed outside the window, staring at the people and cars passing by but at the same time, still lost in her thoughts.

After a long drive, we arrived home. Mommy held my hand as we alighted from the car together. She was still feeling bad that we didn't get to shop together. It doesn't matter. I can do it later with her or Daddy.

"Huh? You're here!" I heard Mommy's voice and lifted my head to see Daddy in front of the house with his luggage. He's moving in with us.

I wriggled my hand from mommy's grip and ran to hug him. He accepted the hug, carrying me in his hands. He only smiled at me but didn't say a word.

Well, my father is mute... right?

A few days ago, when I was kidnapped by those men... the day I also got saved by Daddy... I know he's not my father. But this is all for Mommy. If I get a daddy, my mommy will get a free husband.

That was my task, for mommy to be happy.

Mommy never smiled when we were with bad grandfather. She didn't like him since he was a bad man. She tried hard to hide the truth from me, but I know that Mommy has been through some rough training.

She often returned with wounds and blood stains on her clothes. She would lie that she fell down the stairs.

Bad grandfather is like a mob boss. A very bad man.

That's why Mommy tried to run away with me.

Since we're here, Daddy will be able to protect us. He's a strong man. I watched him beat those kidnappers, and a man in a uniform took them away.

I know Daddy's secret and also Mommy's secret.

"What's happening, Lila? Are you tired?"

Mommy's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I shook my head and rested my head on Daddy's shoulder.

"Miss!" Sylus walked towards us, glaring hard at Daddy. Mommy turned to look at him, with a slight frown on her face. Mommy hated him. Anyone related to a bad grandfather is Mommy's enemy.

"Why is this man here, Miss?" He asked.

"It's my house. Can't I invite people in?"

"But Miss, he's an ordinary person," Sylus replied, clenching his fist.

"No more. He's now Lila's father. So, you'll treat him with respect. Is that clear?!" Mommy yelled at him. He stole glances at me and daddy before nodding.

"Yes, Miss,"

Mommy entered inside first, and just before Daddy could walk in with me, Sylus blocked the door.

"Whatever your plan is, it won't work. Stay away from the Miss," he said and walked away.

Daddy didn't say a word. He just glared at Sylus as he walked away.

Does Sylus like mommy?

Daddy entered the house and met Mommy in the living room, taking off her wristwatch and earrings.

"Don't listen to the guard. He's just being unnecessarily overprotective,"

Daddy shook his head, wearing a soft smile.

"I'll take Daddy to my room first. I'm starving, Mommy," I said, rubbing my stomach. Mommy walked towards us, tying her hair into a rough ponytail.

"I'll go make dinner then. You two can head upstairs," She said and leaned close, planting a kiss on my cheek.

She stepped back, with a smile and I touched my cheek.

"Mommy, what about daddy?" I asked. Her eyes widened as her gaze fell on Daddy.

"What? Baby, I can't..."

I lowered my head sadly, fake tears rolled down my cheek.

"Is daddy not my daddy? Why won't mommy kiss daddy too? Lila is sad," I burst into tears.

If there's one weakness mommy has. It's me crying. She hates to see me cry. She waved her hand swiftly, thinking of a way to make me stop crying.

"Don't cry now, I'll... I'll kiss daddy too," she stuttered and the tears stopped. Her cheek reddened as she stepped closer and tried to reach Daddy's face with her pouted lips.

"Mommy is short," I said and she felt broken by my words. But it's the truth.

Sorry mommy. But, it's true.

Daddy was holding back his laughter, pressing his hand over his mouth.

With a dramatic sigh, Mommy grabbed his collar, just to lower his head to her level. He tightened his grip around my body so I wouldn't fall.

Smooch!

Mommy kissed his cheek.

Then... silence. They just stared at each other, eyes locked.

One second. Two. Three. Four. Five.

Mommy quickly turned away, heading to the kitchen.

"I.. I'll call you two once dinner is ready," she said, not even turning to look at us.

Daddy was still in a daze like he'd just been hit by lightning.

"Daddy, let's go to my room," I said, tugging his shirt. He blinked out of his daze. Leaving his luggage behind, he headed upstairs with me. I led him into my room, which had been decorated by Mommy.

"Do you like my room?" I asked and he nodded.

I watched him walk around the room. He stopped by a framed picture of Mommy and me. It was taken in an amusement park when we sneaked out on my third birthday.

His hand trailed over the glass where Mommy was smiling.

"Daddy, do you like Mommy?" I asked him. He suddenly let go of the frame and looked back at me. His lips just curled into a smile.

That smile again.

How will I get his answer from just a smile?

I jumped off the bed and walked towards him.

"Mommy isn't here and she won't be here till dinner is done. When I'm around, you don't have to hide, Daddy. I know you can talk,"

I said, and he didn't look surprised. He just smiled and squatted in front of me. His hand stroked my brown soft hair.

"Aren't you a cute little girl? Seems like my secret has been exposed," he said.

Daddy's voice is so cool.

See? I knew it.

Only this man can be mommy's husband.
