Chapter 34: The Birth of Gwen Spider

Chapter 34: The Birth of Gwen Spider

"By the way, where did you build such a large secret base?" Gwen looked around. "Such a large piece of land can't possibly be yours, can it?"

"If it were, it wouldn't be called a secret base." Yang Le operated the console, and the screen lit up, playing an image.

Looking at the image of the fish and rocks, Gwen exclaimed in surprise.

"So we're underwater now?"

"To be precise, it's the Atlantic Ocean. Extracting such a vast space underwater nearly killed me. Underwater, Big Chill are indeed less useful than Ripjaws."

Yang Le also pounded his waist to show his fatigue.

"You mean we walked through a door and came from Queens to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean? Are you a Druide?"

Yang Le didn't rush to explain but instead brought up another picture.

"Just as I said before, I am a time traveler, and this sphere is the reason I ended up in this universe. Don't judge it by its appearance; its creator is the smartest person in the entire universe. Through studying it, I've obtained quite a few interesting gadgets."

"But none of those are the focus of today." Yang Le pressed several buttons on the console.

"Our focus today is this, the Hand, and they are the ones responsible for harming your father."

An emblem appeared on the screen, a bright red handprint, with a face in the palm instead of fingerprints, looking somewhat odd.

"Please forgive me; this is drawn based on my memory. It might differ from the original, but that's fine. It saves them from sending me subpoenas, considering these symbols have been handed down for generations and are particularly fond of suing others for infringement."

"habby~" Gwen looked at Yang Le helplessly, her just-nurtured avenger emotions interrupted.

"Let's ease the atmosphere, cough, let's get to the point." Yang Le cleared his throat, putting on a serious face.

"The reason I speculated it was the Hand's doing is because of their iconic ninja elements, and most importantly, they leave no corpse after death, turning into a pile of ashes instead, giving enemies no clues, making them perfect assassins."

"Of course, no clues are the biggest clue. Because of their characteristic of not leaving a body, anyone can tell they are the Hand, which is self-incriminating."

"Not wanting to leave clues, so no bodies are left after death, but not leaving bodies exposes their identities." Gwen scratched her head; somehow this organization didn't seem very smart.

"But don't underestimate them either. The Hand does have some strength. Based on your description, the one you encountered that day was probably just a lackey; the real trouble lies in those who master bizarre ninja arts and magic."

Speaking of magic, Yang Le couldn't help but feel troubled. Most of the alien heroes in the omnitrix had low magical resistance, and if he encountered one, he might end up in a tough battle.

"No danger can stop me." Gwen looked firmly at Yang Le. "Those ninjas who wanted to kill my father, I won't just stand by and watch my father die."

"I always mess up my life. From childhood to adulthood, the only thing I've ever held onto is music, but now I have this power, I don't want to lose it again. I want to use this power to protect everything around me, starting with my father."

"You just said something that smells like Spider-Man." Yang Le applauded Gwen's speech.

Yang Le wasn't very familiar with the story of Universe 65. He only knew that Gwen was like a multi-universe street hustler named Wang Xiaoming, and there was also the famous Lizard-Man Peter from this universe.

However, Peter became a Lizard-Man due to long-term campus bullying and excessive worship of Gwen.

But now, Peter defeated Thompson and became a popular figure at school, and was even being mushy with Mary Jane. How could he possibly turn into a Lizard-Man?

Wait, something felt off. Yang Le frowned as he thought about it. He remembered George's assassination was supposed to happen after Peter became a Lizard-Man and died, but now George's assassination had been moved up. Could it be that this isn't Universe 65?

"What's wrong, habby?" Gwen looked puzzled at Yang Le who suddenly stopped talking.

"Oh, nothing, just thinking about some unimportant things." Yang Le waved his hand, signaling Gwen not to worry.

"By the way, to deal with the Hand, I prepared some gifts for you."

Yang Le snapped his fingers, and a tall cylindrical cabinet rose from the ground.

"To protect your safety, I made you a suit." Yang Le led Gwen to the cabinet, and the protective cover slowly opened to reveal the equipment inside.

Without showing off his poor design talent, Yang Le chose the classic design of the Ghost Spider, a suit in pink, white, and black colors appearing before Gwen's eyes.

"Wow, hard to imagine this design is yours." Gwen was satisfied with the suit, couldn't help but touch it, while not forgetting to criticize Yang Le's aesthetic sense.

'Looks good, you designed it yourself.' Yang Le thought to himself as he watched Gwen's adoration.

Ignoring Gwen's criticism, Yang Le continued introducing the equipment.

"The suit material is a composite fiber, made by Juryrigg. In his words, this stuff can make Green Giant underwear."

"Green Giant? What is that? And is this made of underwear material?" Gwen shuddered, quickly pulling her hand back and wiping it on Yang Le's body as if she touched something dirty.

"It's a metaphor! Do you understand?" Yang Le looked at Gwen with a headache.

"The Green Giant is also a superhero. It's complicated to explain in a few words, just know that this material is strong enough."

Yang Le picked up the peculiar-looking bracelet next to the suit and put it on Gwen.

"This is the silk launcher. With it, you can defeat any super villain."

Looking at the puzzled Gwen, Yang Le also put on a silk launcher and prepared to demonstrate.

"Watch carefully, this is how the silk launcher works."

After saying that, Yang Le stretched his arm, folded his middle and ring fingers, pressed the switch on his palm, and... nothing happened.

"?" Gwen looked at Yang Le in confusion.

Yang Le scratched his head, embarrassed, and said, "Sorry, the trigger button requires 180 pounds of force; I can't press it."

This design is actually an insurance mechanism; only someone with superhuman strength like Spider-Man can use the silk launcher freely.

Yang Le thought it was good, so he added it, but it ended up biting him in the foot.

Gwen shook her head, followed Yang Le's posture, and easily pressed the button, but still no silk shot out.

"You need to press the button twice quickly to shoot the silk."

Yang Le said softly from the side.
