Chapter 2

That was my last hundred thousand dollars, the money I had saved to buy formula for the baby in my belly.

In the end, I couldn't keep the money, and I couldn't keep the baby either.

I was left with nothing.

I forced myself to get up from the ground, fighting through the pain. The tearing sensation down below made it almost impossible to walk normally.

I could only stand in place, frozen in an awkward posture.

While I was still trying to figure out how to make it to the bed, Liam called.

"Seraphina, what's your problem? Did you call the cops on me and Melody because you're jealous of our love?"

"I'm telling you, as soon as I get back, I'm kicking you out!"

In the past, I would've argued with him, then begged for his forgiveness.

Even if I hadn't done it, even if I wasn't wrong.

I would've taken the blame for everything just to appease him.

But now, I replied coolly:

"It wasn't me. Believe it or not."

Liam went quiet for a moment, probably surprised by my attitude.

But soon enough, he snarled:

"Don't think you can trap me just because you're pregnant."

"You don't know yet, do you? Melody's pregnant too, and your kid will never measure up to hers."

"Getting pregnant is no big deal. The real skill is in giving birth."

I closed my eyes, overwhelmed by the flood of painful memories. The first time I got pregnant, I naively thought he would be happy too.

But on the very night we found out about the pregnancy, he dragged me to a bungee jumping platform and suddenly pushed me off.

I screamed in terror, but he said, "The fetus needs some stimulation to be healthier."

His mother Genevieve was also there, backing him up.

And so, I lost my first child.

During my second pregnancy, he forced himself on me despite my objections.

That night, the blood beneath my body stained the entire bedsheets red.

Liam was utterly disgusted, saying I was bad luck and had dirtied his family's bed.

The last remnants of my love for him vanished that night.

After that, I avoided him like the plague.

No matter what he said or did, I acted as if I couldn't see it.

But then he'd turn around and tell Genevieve I was a wooden doll, incapable of serving others.

Genevieve, doting on him, would take him to bathhouses for fun.

I silently endured their mother-son duo's cold shoulders, struggling to maintain the facade of a happy marriage in front of others.

And now, my third child is gone too.

I may never even be able to become a mother in this lifetime.

It's time to end this ridiculous marriage.

I hung up the phone without a shred of regret.I learned from Liam's previous actions and blocked and deleted his contact information.

I got up and called for the doctor. When he saw me on the floor, he was shocked.

"Why did you get out of bed on your own?"

"The bones in your thigh and arm are broken. Aren't you afraid of misalignment if you move around?"

I didn't respond to his words, only pleading:

"Doctor, please give me the embryo."

The doctor sighed and said nothing more.

Not long after, a glass bottle was brought to the hospital room.

Looking at the tiny embryo in the bottle, my heart instantly tightened.

It was so small, not even as big as my palm.

Sweetheart, I've waited for you for so long, but still couldn't meet you.

It's Mommy's fault. Mommy couldn't protect you well enough.

I took a deep breath. This kind of pain couldn't be borne by me alone.

I want to send Liam a big gift.

In the afternoon, my head was aching terribly, so I closed my eyes and rested on the bed for a while.

As soon as I closed my eyes, I fell into a deep nightmare.
