Chapter 11: Back then, he searched all over River City but couldn’t find a woman like the one from that night…

Inside the study, Adrian Davies sat at the desk. As soon as he opened the computer, he saw a video call from Europe.

He immediately clicked to open it, and the video was connected.

A kindly old lady appeared on the screen.

Upon seeing the elderly woman, Adrian spoke immediately, "Grandmother!"

The old lady, with white hair and a face full of wrinkles, smiled gently, "Adrian, why haven't you come to visit your grandmother recently?"

Adrian replied calmly, "Grandmother, I've been a bit busy lately. Once this busy period is over, I'll come see you."

Grandmother from the Davies family beamed, "Alright, alright, Grandmother will wait for you to come back."

Before Adrian could respond, she continued, "Adrian, you're already twenty-seven, you can't keep being single. You need a family."

Adrian frowned, "Grandmother, I have…"

"Are you about to say you have those bodyguards!" Grandmother Davies interrupted Adrian, concerned, "Those bodyguards are all rough men. I'm not comfortable with them taking care of you. Matthew could, but he's busy too and can't take care of you. You need a woman, Adrian."

Adrian frowned deeper and stayed silent.

The old lady remembered Adrian's well-known issue, and couldn't help but feel worried.

Looking at Adrian on the computer screen, she kindly advised again, "Adrian, a man eventually needs a woman. Besides, you already have Daniel, shouldn't you be preparing to marry Daniel's mother?"

Adrian's strong brows furrowed even more.

Looking at the grandmother on the screen, he replied calmly again, "Grandmother, you know my situation. Let's wait a bit on marriage; there's no rush."

"No rush? How much longer will you wait?" Grandmother Davies looked at Adrian disapprovingly, "Adrian, grandma isn't trying to pressure you, but how many women can wait five years? Daniel's mother has been waiting for you for five years; it's unfair to keep her waiting like this."

Adrian: "..."

Grandmother Davies: "Adrian, Grandma knows about your issues. You've disliked women for years, even female servants have to keep several meters away from you. But it's different with Daniel's mom; you had Daniel with her five years ago. Grandma just doesn't understand why you won't let her get close anymore?"

Adrian: "..."

Grandma may not understand, and neither does he.

Back then, he hid in her room while being chased, willingly made the antidote for her, and left her the token.

She was the only woman he had touched in over twenty years, and he must find her.

Moreover, he quickly moved the company back to River City just to find her.

However, when he finally saw her, everything changed.

He missed her for a year, often recalling her tender and delicate body in midnight dreams, yet all thoughts vanished the moment he saw her; he even disliked her as he did other women, treating her with the same disdain.

He couldn't bear her closeness, let alone marry her.

Grandmother Davies continued, "Adrian, regardless, she remains Daniel's mom, the only woman you've touched in years. For Daniel, for yourself, try to accept her."

Adrian, still frowning, finally spoke, "Grandmother, I understand. Let's talk about it later."

For years, Ava Parker was a name he had long forgotten.

Returning to River City four years ago in search of the woman from that night, from the day Ava Parker came knocking with the Jade Pendant he left and carrying Daniel Davies, he lost all fondness for 'the woman from that night.'

From the first glance at Ava Parker, inexplicable agitation and disgust rose within him.

In the dim light back then, he could only feel her touch and scent, which he could accept.

He wanted not to admit that Ava Parker was the woman from back then.

But Ava Parker had the Jade Pendant, and she carried the son with his blood.

Reluctantly, he had to admit Ava Parker was that woman.

The only woman he'd touched, willingly acted as an antidote, and thought about for a year.

Latterly, he checked the hotel surveillance from that night, but it had been erased due to the gunshot incident.

Afterward, for himself, Adrian had tried to get close to Ava Parker.

But in years, forget about touching her.

Every attempt of Ava Parker's to get close evoked a reaction identical to what he felt towards all other women.

The same disdain, disgust, and agitation...

Adrian couldn't bring himself to believe Ava Parker was that woman, was Daniel's mom.

Yet, all of it was true!

Even after searching all over River City, he didn't find another woman like the one from that night.

Seeing Adrian not budging, Grandmother Davies got nowhere with him, "Ah, you!"

After saying this, Grandmother Davies instructed the nearby servant, "Go fetch Daniel."

"Yes, madam."

The servant left, and shortly after, a boy of about four or five years, mostly resembling Adrian, came over.

"Great-grandmother, you called me."

"Yes," Grandmother Davies nodded, smiling warmly, "Good, come and have a word with your Daddy."

Daniel Davies's little face appeared on the computer screen, coldly greeting Adrian, "Daddy."

"Hmm." Adrian looked at his son on the screen, seeing the image similar to his own, suddenly finding the distinct eyebrows and eyes different from himself so familiar.

Through Daniel's eyes, Adrian seemed to see that woman's little face.

That woman had a similar pair of eyes; her smile was beautiful, bright like stars.

Indeed, that woman was Ava Parker's sister, Daniel's aunt.

In hindsight, it seemed natural for a nephew to resemble his aunt.

"Adrian, after the new year, I'll move back to River City with Daniel. Grandma's old now, it's time to go back, and Daniel needs to start school."

Daniel Davies's expression remained apathetic watching the screen, saying nothing.

No sign of resistance or joy regarding Great-grandmother's words was shown.

Grandmother Davies's words interrupted Adrian's thoughts.

Adrian looked at his equally indifferent son, speaking softly, "Alright, after the new year, Grandma shall return with Daniel."

"Great-grandmother, Daddy, if there's nothing else, I'll leave now." Daniel coldly said his goodbye, then expressionless, turned to leave.

Grandmother Davies watched Daniel's departing figure, sighing quietly, "Ah, this child…"

Heaven knows how much she longed for a lively, adorable great-grandson!

But alas, her fate was bitter!

Her grandson cold and quiet, and her great-grandson just the same.

Grandmother Davies turned back, glaring at Adrian, "Just like you!"

Adrian: "..."
