Chapter 12: Being put on the Spot

“Cool. I see you’ve got your stuff.” Nadine walked over to the desk and grabbed the laptop bag, slipping the laptop into it, along with a notebook and pens. She ran her fingers over the spines of the books before picking up two of them and placing them in the bag. “That should be everything you need for now. We should head to the lecture hall—I’m sure you don’t want the awkward attention of walking in late.”

“Absolutely not!” Caroline grabbed her jumper from where it hung on the back of the door and pulled it over her head. Nadine handed her the satchel, and she slung it over her shoulder, following Nadine out into the hall. 

“Now,” Nadine led them briskly through the rapidly emptying corridor, “Did Eloise go into much detail about your classes or how they work here?”

“No, none.”

“Okay. Well, she did say you’d gone to a civilian high school until now, so I imagine our structure will feel weird at first…”

“Civilian?” Caroline asked.
