Chapter 20: Wind · God-Slayer · BaboonChapter
"Yes, yes, yes! Of course, I can!"
Tang Ya agreed readily, her eyes fixed intently on the skewers. She quickly accepted the handful of lamb skewers, sat down right there on the ground with little regard for appearances, and started eating, puffing out air as she chewed.
It was hard to tell if it was because the skewers were hot or spicy.
Bei Bei had also walked over by now. He raised a hand in greeting, then said to Tang Ya, "Xiao Ya, this little brother hasn't even eaten yet, and you've already started."
Tang Ya's beautiful eyes widened as she retorted嗔怒 (chēnnù - feigning anger/pouting), "What did you call me?"
Bei Bei raised his hands in surrender.
"Alright, Teacher Xiao Ya, happy now?"
Tang Ya shot him a sideways glance.
"That's more like it. You need to be mindful of your status."
Qian Zhaoguang sat aside, secretly amused. He handed a few of the freshly grilled skewers to Bei Bei and simultaneously gave him a glance that all men understand.
"Want some?"
Bei Bei waved his hand, smiling faintly.
"A gentleman does not take what others cherish. Little brother, you haven't eaten yourself yet."
"Ah, don't worry about that. These things cook fast; let's just eat together."
Qian Zhaoguang used a small fan to wave at the stove.
The wind fanned the flames, causing the vigorous charcoal fire, combined with the lamb fat, to release an even more fragrant aroma.
"This meat was marinated for me beforehand by my younger sister. I kept it refrigerated with ice blocks in a soul tool. When it's time to eat, I just need to start a fire and grill it. Originally, grilling raw lamb directly is best, but the quality of this meat isn't great, so I had to settle for using some marinade to cover it up."
Hearing this, Bei Bei finally accepted a few skewers and sat down beside Tang Ya.
"Forgive my impoliteness. We haven't introduced ourselves yet. My name is Bei Bei, and she is Tang Ya. May I ask for your name, little brother?"
"My name is Qian Zhaoguang."
While grilling, Qian Zhaoguang simultaneously used his spiritual power to observe Bei Bei and Tang Ya's actions.
These two have their guard down way too low. They actually dare to eat food given by a stranger whose background they don't know?
Aren't they afraid I might have bad intentions?
Ah well, whatever. This actually makes things easier for me.
Building a good relationship with this great-grandson of the Dragon God Douluo early on would also be beneficial for his future life in the academy.
Under Qian Zhaoguang's skillful "skewer-turning" technique, a large batch of lamb skewers was seared by the fierce fire, flipped constantly, and quickly cooked through.
The three ate until their mouths were slick with oil, thoroughly enjoying themselves.
Before long, the small bucket Qian Zhaoguang had prepared beforehand was already full of discarded skewers.
"That was too delicious! I've never eaten such tasty meat skewers before. Little Brother Zhaoguang, how about you come be my chef in the future? I'll hire you at a high salary!"
Tang Ya lay back on the grass, stretching contentedly.
Qian Zhaoguang smiled, tidying up the things and rubbish on the ground, steering the conversation elsewhere.
"My skills are far worse compared to my younger sister's. The grilled fish she cooks is absolutely superb, definitely worthy of being called a delicacy."
Tang Ya's eyes lit up, and she sat up abruptly.
"Really?! I must try it if I get the chance!"
"Mm, if fate allows us to meet again in the future, I will definitely invite you and Big Brother Bei to taste it."
As Qian Zhaoguang spoke, he stood up. He had already stored all the miscellaneous items from the ground into his storage bracelet earlier.
"I'm leaving now. See you again if fate permits."
Bei Bei quickly interjected, "Little brother, this is the wilderness, and not far from the Star Dou Great Forest where soul beasts roam. Where are you heading?"
Qian Zhaoguang waved goodbye to the two with a deliberately mysterious gesture, leaving only a single sentence hanging in the air under their surprised gazes.
"I'm going to get stronger."
After Qian Zhaoguang left, Tang Ya and Bei Bei started discussing him.
Tang Ya was naturally captivated by Qian Zhaoguang's superb barbecue skills and wanted to recruit him into the Tang Sect.
Bei Bei, however, was less optimistic. He pointed out the expensive-looking silver bracelet Qian Zhaoguang wore on his wrist.
Combined with the fact that he carried no bags, Bei Bei deduced it was highly likely a high-capacity storage soul tool.
(Alright, actually it was because Qian Zhaoguang himself had mentioned it earlier, but Tang Ya had been too focused on eating to pay attention.)
Considering all these factors, Bei Bei believed Qian Zhaoguang most likely came from a background with significant backing and was probably also heading into the Star Dou Great Forest to hunt for a soul ring.
Even with Bei Bei's analysis, Tang Ya still insisted that Qian Zhaoguang was alone, using herself as an example.
Thus, unable to dissuade Tang Ya, Bei Bei decided they would rest for a bit and then follow Qian Zhaoguang to see if there was any way they could help him, thereby repaying the favor of the barbecue meal.
Meanwhile, Qian Zhaoguang estimated the original Huo Yuhao's travel speed and steadily approached the Star Dou Great Forest.
When he saw a wooden sign that read, "Entering Star Dou Great Forest boundary in fifty li ahead. Soul beasts are active. Proceed with caution," a stone in his heart finally settled.
He hadn't gone the wrong way; this was indeed the route from the original story.
The destination was just ahead. For this day, he had waited a full ten years.
At this moment, besides excitement, Qian Zhaoguang also felt a degree of nervousness.
He took out a long saber from his storage bracelet, secured it on his back, and walked forward with determined steps.
Tianmeng Ice Silkworm, Electrolux, I'm coming!
The air gradually grew cooler. The unique scent of plants and trees in the forest permeated the surroundings, seemingly isolating this area completely from the outside world.
Without a protector guarding him, Qian Zhaoguang didn't dare to be careless. He drew a long saber, glinting with a cold light, from his back and held it firmly in his hand.
The long saber was forged entirely from an ice-attribute Thousand Refined rare metal. A faint white light glinted along its edge, radiating a sharp aura.
Even if it were merely forged from ordinary Cold Iron that underwent Thousand Refinements, in this era, it was still an incredibly rare divine weapon.
Forcibly suppressing the excitement and anticipation in his heart, Qian Zhaoguang took careful steps, spreading out his Pseudo-Spirit Awareness, cautiously preparing to enter the Star Dou Great Forest.
Suddenly, a swift figure appeared within his perception range.
The sensation was like something flashing past your eyes abruptly while you were daydreaming.
The next second, from the woods to his left, a black shadow flickered and instantly appeared right before him.
Within the perception of his Pseudo-Spirit Awareness, the newcomer had nowhere to hide. Qian Zhaoguang had already clearly seen its appearance.
It stood about one meter tall, covered in brownish-yellow fur, with brown eyes. Its arms were incredibly long, its claws tipped with sharp nails. Canines protruded from its lips, and its eyes radiated ferocity.
It's finally here!
Wind · Almost-Successful God-Slayer · Baboon.
An irrepressible grin spread across Qian Zhaoguang's lips. With both hands, he swung the long saber forward fiercely.
The Wind Baboon reacted with incredible speed. In the very instant it lunged down, it let out another strange cry and kicked off diagonally backwards, causing the powerful slash to merely graze it slightly.
Having its attack miss and getting injured instead, the Wind Baboon clutched its injured left paw, let out a low roar towards Qian Zhaoguang, and leaped towards him again.
While jumping high, it forcefully threw back its upper body, beat its chest with both fists producing a drum-like sound, and spat a ball of white light towards Qian Zhaoguang.
Qian Zhaoguang stood his ground, not dodging. The Qi and Blood force within his body boiled, and the surrounding air instantly chilled.
A blade of light, one foot long, extended from the tip of his long saber, adding another section to the already extremely long blade.
