Chapter 3

As he brought up the movie, a wave of bitterness washed over my chest.

Yesterday, Quint was supposed to accompany me to see this film. But just as we were about to leave, he said he was worried the movie might affect my emotions, and that he'd take me to see it after he'd watched it himself to make sure it was okay.

Yet that very evening, Melody sent me a photo of them watching the movie together.

"Sis, the movie you picked was really great!"

"I suggest you go to bed early. Quint is going to spend the night with me..."

I hadn't even finished reading Melody's text when Quint's video call came in.

"Evelina, there's an emergency at the office. I'll be working late tonight and won't be able to come home."

I nodded calmly, uttering a soft "Mm-hmm."

"Be good and go to bed early, okay?"

Then the screen shook, and he hurriedly ended the call. I guess Melody was probably being clingy beside him.

"Evelina, let's go see the movie now. We won't be able to once we're in the hospital."

Quint's voice pulled me back to reality.

I instinctively pushed him away. "I don't want your heart! And I'm not having the surgery."

Seeing how agitated I was, Quint tried to soothe me carefully.

"I'm using a forgiveness card. Please don't be angry, okay?"Before leaving, I used the forgiveness card, leaving us even. This was exactly the outcome I wanted.

So I nodded lightly, "Okay."

Quint let out a sigh of relief and said,

"Evelina, I don't know what I did wrong to upset you. But remember, you can't be angry when the forgiveness card is used."

"The remaining dozens of forgiveness cards should be enough. Once my heart is inside your body, you won't be angry with me anymore. Because my heart is full of you."

He didn't know that there were only two forgiveness cards left.

I didn't understand how Quint, who was usually so sensitive to numbers, could not know how many he had used.

I looked into his eyes, "Are you sure there are still dozens of forgiveness cards?"

Quint glanced at the box containing the forgiveness cards on the table, suddenly looking a bit flustered. But just as he was about to open it and check,

His phone suddenly rang.

I saw it was Melody calling. Quint's expression tensed, and he wanted to hang up.

I said, "Answer it. It might be urgent."Quint turned his back to answer the phone, responding perfunctorily before hanging up.

Then, he spoke with a bit of difficulty,

"Evelina, I'm sorry, there's an urgent matter at the company..."

I responded understandingly as always, "Go ahead, we can watch the movie another time."

Quint reluctantly rubbed my hand, "I'll come home as soon as I'm done."

No sooner had he left,

Melody sent me a message. I opened it to find a photo of a prenatal check-up form, with Quint listed as the father!

"Evelina, you've lost!"

"Quint was overjoyed to know I'm carrying his sweetheart. How could you, a barren waste, even think to compete with me?"

"You've got some nerve wanting his heart. A sick freak like you should just die already!"

Back when Quint learned about my condition and that I couldn't have children, not only did he not leave me, but he comforted me with all his might,

"Evelina, it's okay. Without kids, we can live in our own little world forever, just the two of us being romantic!"

"I don't need anything else, I only need you."

After we got married, he still often brought me flowers.

He prepared surprises for every anniversary.

Married life was even sweeter than when we were dating.

I was immersed in happiness.Silently resolving, to be with him for all eternity.

A lifetime together, that's what she vowed.
