Chapter 0635 – Danger Descends

Unknowingly, the mysterious song that had emerged from the oasis vanished just as strangely as it had appeared—without warning. Everything felt unnervingly surreal.

As the song faded, the beasts, monsters, and even human cultivators who had been drawn into it began to recover their senses.

Wushuang Ghost awoke immediately.

Seeing Yi Tianxing beside him and the picturesque surroundings, he instantly realized they had entered the oasis—stood now on Devil oasis.

"Lord, we've reached Devil oasis. So many beasts and monsters... I must've fallen into a trap. That terrifying song lured me in—I saw faces of old friends, close comrades—I don't even know how I started running straight for the oasis. But all of it must've been illusion. Those cultivators who came before us must've been drawn in the same way."

A trace of lingering fear flickered in Wushuang Ghost's eyes.

That feeling—of the body no longer under one's own control—was too horrifying. If this continued, one wouldn't even know how they died.

"Mm. This oasis is strange. Though lush and green, there's no sign of life. Not a single living creature. We need to stay alert. No room for carelessness."

Yi Tianxing nodded. Wushuang Ghost's words confirmed his earlier suspicion: each person saw a different illusion, tailored to exploit their own emotional vulnerabilities.

The song's purpose was clear—it existed solely to lure people into the oasis.

What came next would surely be the real danger.

At that moment, all the beasts, monsters, and foreign races that had entered the oasis were beginning to awaken.

Each of them scanned their surroundings with wary eyes. After all, they had suddenly appeared in a place filled with other races—many of them natural enemies.

This tense atmosphere led to a cautious standstill. Instead of attacking, they instinctively dispersed. Some headed into the forest, others onto the grasslands, and some toward the lake.

The human cultivators were also full of fear and uncertainty.

"We're doomed. We thought we'd found an undiscovered oasis, but this is Devil oasis. We were all affected without even realizing. The legends say—no one who enters ever returns."

"I knew it! There's no way such a huge oasis would've gone unnoticed before. But now that we're here... I want to see what makes this place so deadly. If something wants me dead, it won't be that easy."

Some cultivators bared their teeth with grim defiance. Though death seemed certain, it only fanned the flames of their rebellion.

"Since we're all in this together now, whether we knew each other or not before, I suggest we join forces and try to survive in this oasis."

"Look—there's no way out. The desert's gone! Everything outside is just... nothing. It's like the whole world beyond this oasis has disappeared. Is this a prison?"

Someone cried out in terror.

Looking back, they realized the desert had vanished. Beyond the oasis lay only a boundless void, endless and empty. It was as if the oasis existed inside a sealed dimension.

A thick fog surrounded them, impenetrable, cutting off all contact with the outside world. There was no going back.

They were trapped in a cage of death.

"Lord... I don't think we can leave."

Wushuang Ghost's expression darkened. He could instinctively sense a terrifying presence in the void. A power capable of annihilating everything. Death. Despair.

"Heaven never seals all paths. If we could come in, there must be a way out. I refuse to believe no one has ever escaped. Maybe someone has—they just didn't live to tell the tale."

Yi Tianxing remained calm and resolute.

ROAR!!

Suddenly, a massive sandworm that had dashed toward the forest let out a cry of fear and rage, startling everyone.

As eyes turned to look, they were met with a horrifying sight.

The beasts that had entered the forest were now being ambushed. Without warning, twisted root tendrils shot out of the ground like serpents. They wrapped around the beasts, constricting and impaling them.

Some roots morphed into spear-like weapons, stabbing directly into the bodies of the beasts. Within moments, the roots turned blood-red, drawing out every drop of life essence.

In seconds, the creatures withered into husks—then even their bones were dragged underground, devoured by the forest.

The forest was alive—and a predator.

Some of the ancient trees were terrifyingly thick. If one looked closely, ghastly faces appeared on their bark, grinning with eerie satisfaction.

"Those roots are terrifying! They're like divine weapons, slicing through beasts like nothing."

"And the leaves—those are even worse! They fly like hidden weapons. I saw flying beasts shredded in the sky!"

Worse still, there was no smell of blood. Everything—blood, flesh, even bones—was absorbed. All that remained was a fresh, fragrant forest scent.

The killing had ended as quickly as it had begun. The forest now stood quiet and peaceful, as though nothing had happened—save for the slightly thicker trunks and lusher foliage.

"Look! The lake!"

A shout drew everyone's attention again.

They turned in time to see beasts and monsters near the lake being dragged in by massive watery claws that emerged from the surface. The water formed tentacle-like appendages, grabbing and pulling the creatures into the lake.

Once submerged, they disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Yi Tianxing could feel it—the lake had grown slightly larger, deeper—fed by the life it had consumed.

"The lake's just as dangerous as the forest! Stay away! Anything that gets close will be devoured!"

"What now? We can't enter the forest, can't approach the lake... What do we do? Hover in the air forever?"

Panic spread among the cultivators.

This place was exactly as the legends described. Devil oasis—where death could strike at any moment, from any direction.

Even the most ordinary-looking things—grass, trees, water—were lurking threats.

"Look! The grass—on the ground!"

"Fly! Into the air! Avoid the ground!"

Shrieks of terror erupted as countless blades of grass suddenly grew wildly, thrashing like swords. The sound of the air being shredded was deafening.

Those still on the ground were instantly engulfed by the grassblade storm. Blood sprayed—then vanished, as the greenery absorbed every drop.

Once again, there was no stench of death—only the faint, fresh smell of grass.
