[Scene: Guild Courtyard – Return From the Outpost]
The teleportation crystal flared, and Kai and Mira emerged in the center of the guild courtyard. Guild members, instructors, and apprentices looked up from training drills and daily chores as the pair arrived—worn out, covered in soot and ash, but very much alive.
The victory over the Emberborn outpost should've felt triumphant. It didn't.
Whispers spread through the crowd.
APPRENTICE (whispering)"That's him. The Flamebearer."
SENIOR HUNTER"You sure he's not just leading them and pretending to fight?"
Mira caught the shift in the air immediately. Eyes were on Kai—not with admiration, but with unease. Suspicion.
MIRA (low voice)"Looks like your reputation beat us home."
KAI (shrugging, but clearly bothered)"I should start charging for all the staring."
[Scene: Guild Council Hall – Emergency Meeting]
Later that day, Kai was summoned by the Guild Council—an emergency closed meeting. The room was cold and full of tension. Mira was kept outside. Lyra paced just beyond the door, arms folded, her brow creased.
Inside, the council sat in a half-circle, papers and glowing sigils floating in front of them. Mistress Izel, the head councilor, fixed her pale eyes on Kai.
IZEL"You destroyed an Emberborn outpost. And yet their leaders live. And more join them, claiming you are their messiah."
KAI (firmly)"I'm not their messiah. I burned their temple to the ground."
COUNCILOR DANE"Yet everywhere you go, more cultists rise. Are we supposed to believe this is a coincidence?"
KAI (through gritted teeth)"Believe what you want. I'm not working with them."
They let him leave—but the message was clear. The guild didn't fully trust him.
[Scene: Guild Library – Mira's Meeting With the Archivist]
While Kai was locked in the council room, Mira was approached by a man she didn't recognize. He was old, draped in star-patterned robes, with a crystalline eye that shimmered like a miniature nebula.
ORYN"You walk with the Flamebearer. That makes you… important."
MIRA (arms crossed)"And you are?"
ORYN"Oryn. Keeper of Celestial Prophecy. And you—are about to change everything."
He pulled a scroll from his robes—one wrapped in black starlight.
ORYN"The Hollow Star stirs. An ancient being once sealed beyond time. If the Flamebearer's emotions spiral out of control… it may awaken. And if it does—he won't burn alone."
Mira stared at the scroll, then back at Oryn.
MIRA"What happens if I tell him?"
ORYN"Then the prophecy accelerates. Fear breeds fire. And fire... consumes."
[Scene: Guild Rooftop – Nightfall]
That night, Kai found Mira sitting on the rooftop, legs dangling over the edge. The stars stretched above them—cold and distant.
KAI (quietly sitting beside her)"So… how bad was the council gossip?"
MIRA"Half think you're a traitor. The other half think you'll explode and turn the guild to ash."
KAI (grinning faintly)"I like to keep my brand consistent."
They were quiet for a long moment. Then, Kai asked the question weighing on him.
KAI"You trust me, right?"
MIRA (softly, not looking at him)"I've seen you fight. Seen you bleed for people who fear you. So yeah… I do."
Their eyes met. Not a joke. Not sarcasm. Just truth.
Then Kai reached over, brushing a loose strand of her silver-blonde hair behind her ear.
KAI"Thanks for staying. Even when I'm... me."
MIRA (quietly)"You're not the monster they're afraid of."
She didn't pull away.
Neither did he.
[Scene: Emberborn Hideout – Final Moments]
In the shadows of a ruined cathedral, the Ember Girl—Kai's sister—stood with the Emberborn priest and the robed figure known only as the Eclipsed Blade.
EMBER GIRL"The council suspects him. The guild is dividing. Everything's going to plan."
ECLIPSED BLADE"And the Hollow Star?"
EMBER GIRL (smiling darkly)"Soon. All it needs is for him to fall in love."
