Chapter 14: Back to the Grind

He didn't know who took first. Didn't ask. Didn't need to.

Third was enough.

It meant he belonged.

Jun walked out of the event hall without a trophy, but with something heavier in his chest—settling, anchoring. He hadn't just brewed coffee. He'd held his own. In front of judges. In front of peers. In front of people who could afford to laugh at someone like him.

And they didn't.

They watched. They nodded. They listened.

It was the first time in a long while that Jun didn't feel like he was running from something. He was walking toward something now. Not sure what it was yet—but it smelled like espresso and it felt like home.

---

The next morning, he was back at the community center. Early.

Too early.

Mina was inside already, prepping the youth fridge and checking a list pinned to the wall. She didn't turn when he entered. Just flicked her wrist toward the corner.

"Hot water's on."

Jun set up without saying a word. Just movement. Just rhythm. He brewed a quiet cup for her and left it near her notes.

She sipped without looking.

"You didn't choke," she said.

"No."

"You didn't win."

"No."

"Still here, though."

Jun allowed himself the faintest smirk. "Still grinding."

---

Later, as he poured for one of the volunteers, the system buzzed softly.

> [Task Update: Repeat Value – 2/10 Customers Returned]

The man took the cup with a nod. No thanks. No compliments.

But he came back. That was enough.

---

Outside, Jun checked his phone.

[Rent Payment: 4 Days Overdue]

[Landlord: Unread Message – "?"]

He didn't open it. Not yet.

He wasn't ready to answer. But he wasn't avoiding it anymore either.

Not this time.
