Chapter 4: Scrolls

Moving on, he stood up and took all the scrolls off the shelf. He placed them close to his chair and started reading, determined to absorb everything his father left for himself.

The dim light coming from above was barely enough for Kuroichi to read without issues. His fingers traced the ink that was already starting to fade on one of the scrolls, eyes darting over the different symbols. He was so absorbed into gaining new knowledge that he started to forget the time.

The scrolls he read weren't only historical records his father left behind, no, they contained everything he would need to build a strong foundation for his future.

He would not be able to truly understand all the knowledge on each scroll in such a short time, but getting a better overview on what they contained plus remembering important things for later was easy enough.

Some scrolls detailed basic knowledge of the human body, others explained stretches and workouts fit for younger people to build strength, stamina, agility and dexterity etc.

He didn't read much into these scrolls, some even had descriptions of specific Taijutsu styles that was supposedly good for beginners, others had general explanations of chakra and how to use it.

Most of these different records didn't come from his father personally, which he realized because the handwriting was different, but some of them were written by him so he left those for last.

As he finished skimming over most scrolls, he carefully put the ones written by his father in front of himself. These were very important, not just because of the sentimental value but also because of their contents.

Chakra: What is it and how is it used?

Hand-seal Basics

Chakra Manipulation Exercises

Meiton - Dark Release

Taijutsu - Yami Kagerō

Fuinjutsu

Ninjutsu

The chakra manipulation exercises where already known to him because of the anime, but in the scroll they were described in details, containing specific instructions on what the chakra flow is supposed to be like. However, the scroll also hinted that it's possible to invent new, more difficult, exercises making chakra manipulation even more precise and opening up new avenues for development.

At its most basic level, a novice dark release user can only drain chakra through direct physical contact, making grappling and precise strikes essential in combat. As they advance, they develop the ability to siphon limited amounts of chakra from enemy jutsu, though powerful techniques or vast chakra sources remain beyond their capacity. More skilled practitioners, however, can absorb entire jutsu, either converting the stolen chakra into their own, or making devastating counterattacks using the enemies jutsu against them.

The true potential of dark release remains a mystery even to me, but I believe it to be a manifesation of Yin-Yang, albeit one that leans more on the Yang aspect. If Dark Release is indeed a manifestation of Yin-Yang Release, then it's potential truly might be unfathomable, but whether any shinobi can harness that potential remains doubtful.

Reading these lines Kuroichis breath caught in his throat, betraying his astonishment. He already had a basic understanding of Dark Release, but seeing the details written down made it all the clearer for him. Knowledge of how to use it is supposed to be instinctual to any Dark Release user, but knowing what is possible couldn't hurt, plus his fathers speculations made him think of future possibilities.

His father may not have had that creative of a mind, and true enough he doesn't either, but he knows tens if not hundreds of animes and manga attacks, spells, powers etc. making the development of future abilities hopefully more realistic.

Yami Kagerō, a brutal yet fluid martial art developed exclusively by me for future Dark Release users. Unlike traditional styles that balance attack and defense, Yami Kagerō thrives on relentless offense, forcing opponents into constant engagement. Every strike, be it a palm thrust, a sweeping kick, or a grappling maneuver is designed to make direct contact, siphoning chakra with each blow.

Practitioners move with ghostlike agility, weaving through counterattacks with sudden bursts of speed. The style emphasizes hit and drain tactics, allowing the user to rapidly deplete an enemy's chakra while fueling their own. However, should a counter prove too dangerous, Yami Kagerō incorporates unpredictable evasive footwork, ensuring the user can slip away before an opponent could retaliate.

Reading through the applications of Yami Kagerō again and again, Kuroichi's eyes lit up in astonishment at its effective simplicity. It was perfectly made for people like him who can use Dark Release, enhancing their abilities.

'This is genius! I'd imagine that usually using a Taijutsu style too focused on offensive may be counter-producitve in certain situations, but as a Dark Release user it's always possible to refill chakra quickly, making prolonged battles possible even if the fighting style is unrelenting and aggressive.'

Carefully putting the scroll to aside, he opened the scroll on Sealing Techniques, intrigued at what he might find inside.

Sealing techniques are a rare art, few shinobi bother to learn them because they require more than just chakra, you need patience, precision, and the skill of a calligrapher. A single misplaced stroke can mean the difference between a flawless seal and a useless scribble.

I've developed my own sealing techniques over the years. If you have the control to mold your chakra with exact precision and the discipline to master the art of writing, then you can bind, store, or even suppress the very energy that fuels all jutsu.

But remember, seals, even though similar to ninjutsu, are not simple. Instead of creating a desired outcome through hand seals or pure chakra manipulation, kanji direct and manipulate the flow of chakra itself, letting one manipulate reality more directly through precise programming and intention. Fuinjutsu demands time, understanding, and above all, respect.

Kuroichi understood that in order to learn Fuijutsu he would have to first of all learn calligraphy from somewhere and then invest a good amount of time to become proficient.

'For now I have bigger problems, this takes too much time for now and is impossible to learn in a quick time. I will keep this in mind for later.' He thought to himself.

Opening the last scroll, he was pleased with what he saw. Some of the jutsu inside where familiar to him and he knew them already and the others were self explanatory.

Kuroichi was surprised to find out that knowing many jutsu was a lot less common than he thought. He could already count himself lucky x10 that he had the opportunity to learn so many jutsu at once. Genin mostly only know basic techniques, while Chunin usually know 1 or 2 C rank jutsu of one element. Generally only Jonin know jutsu of more than one element and while his father only knew water style jutsu, he wasn't a part of any village.

'Now I'm really curious about my fathers and our clan's past.. hopefully I'll be able to find out more in the future..'

However for now there more present issues Kuroichi had to deal with, mainly: What are his moves going forward?
