Chapter 36 – Brother's Escape
Months had passed since the graduation exams. While most students were busy planning for college or attending farewell events with their friend groups, Gevran chose a different path—to escape, even just for a little while—with the one person who understood him best.
Han Jimin.
---
"Dude, are you seriously taking only me to Bali? Where's everyone else?" Jimin asked as they stepped off the private jet at Ngurah Rai Airport.
Gevran grinned.
"I need a real break. No crowd. No drama. No cameras. And you're the only one perfect for that."
"Damn. I'm touched," Jimin said dramatically, pounding his chest.
"But don't get all cuddly on me."
"Relax. I'm not that desperate," Gevran replied, playfully pushing his shoulder.
---
Their first day was spent hiding out in a private villa in Uluwatu—an infinity pool, ocean view, top-tier meals, and a playlist full of classic hip hop.
"You remember how we first met? You stepped on my foot in the hallway," Jimin said, lounging on a bean bag by the pool.
Gevran laughed.
"I remember you cursing me out like a loan shark."
"Well, your face was super annoying back then. Like one of those soap opera guys who steal other people's girlfriends."
"Still is," Gevran said smugly, and they both burst into laughter.
---
On the second day, they rode rented motorcycles across Bali—from Canggu to Ubud and Tanah Lot.
"Sometimes I wonder," Jimin said as they sat by the rice fields, sipping fresh coconut water.
"Your life's like a K-drama, but somehow you stay sane."
"That's 'cause I've got friends who help me laugh through life. One of them's you, Han Jimin."
Jimin smirked.
"Damn right. Just don't forget me when you become Korea's Vice President."
"Nah, I'll make you the Minister of National Friendship."
---
On the third day, they went surfing. Jimin nearly drowned twice, but Gevran kept laughing every time he wiped out.
"You keep laughing like you didn't just eat sand earlier," Jimin complained.
"Difference is, I fell with style," Gevran replied, striking a slow-motion pose like a drama character.
---
On their last night, they had a beachside BBQ dinner—sitting on bean bags, eating sate lilit and grilled corn under the stars.
"Gev," Jimin said, this time with a serious tone.
"Thanks for bringing me. Moments like this are rare. I know your life's hectic, always under a spotlight… but you still remembered me."
Gevran patted his shoulder.
"You're not a friend, Min. You're my brother."
And beneath the starlit Bali sky, the two boys sat in silence—saying nothing, but sharing everything.
---
Tomorrow, they would return to Seoul to attend Daesan International High School's graduation. But tonight, they were just two young men—once exhausted, once broken, who had fought and grown together.
Tonight, they were simply Gevran and Jimin—two names that knew the true meaning of friendship.
---
Next Morning – Ngurah Rai International Airport
The villa was silent as Gevran zipped up the last of his bags. Jimin was half-asleep, clutching a neck pillow and muttering something about not wanting to leave paradise.
"You good?" Gevran asked, tossing him a bottle of water.
Jimin groaned. "No, I want another week. Let's fake our deaths and start a beach noodle stall."
"As tempting as that is, we've got a graduation to attend."
Jimin narrowed his eyes. "You sure you're ready for Seoul again? You know who'll be waiting."
Gevran paused, his expression unreadable. "Let them wait."
---
Evening – Seoul, South Korea
The private jet touched down just as twilight painted the city in streaks of silver and orange. Waiting on the runway was a sleek black car from the Yi household. The driver bowed deeply the moment Gevran and Jimin stepped off the stairs.
As the car glided down the Han River expressway, Jimin looked out the window.
"Crazy how fast everything's moving."
"Yeah," Gevran replied, his eyes fixed ahead. "The next chapter's already calling."
---
Daesan International High School – Graduation Ceremony
The auditorium was glowing with chandelier light and decorated with digital banners of each graduate. Faculty members in suits, parents in designer dresses, and students buzzing with excitement filled the massive hall.
As Gevran entered through the side entrance—trying to stay low-key—a murmur swept through the room.
"He came back…"
"Is that… Yi Jido's son?"
"Damn. Even after everything, he still showed up."
Gevran ignored them all, his gaze locked on the front row where his friends sat.
Minjae waved. Jiwan gave a salute. Eunwoo flashed a grin. Haesung just nodded, cool and steady as always.
And then… Rowoon.
She was standing near the podium, adjusting her speech notes as the student representative.
Their eyes met.
Rowoon blinked. Her fingers stopped moving. For a heartbeat, the whole room faded.
Gevran gave a soft smile.
Rowoon looked away—cheeks slightly pink—but a small smile tugged at her lips.
Jimin elbowed Gevran. "Was that a blush? Did I just witness a blush?"
"Shut up, Minister of National Friendship."
---
Later – Graduation Party
A rooftop afterparty buzzed with laughter, music, and too many mocktails. Everyone had gathered: the SeoulPot squad, student council reps, even some juniors who came to sneak selfies with Gevran.
He stood by the balcony railing, looking out at Seoul's night sky—so different from Bali, yet still beautiful in its own way.
"Not bad for a farewell," Jimin said, walking up with two sodas.
"Not bad at all," Gevran replied, taking one.
Rowoon approached slowly, holding a cup of punch. She stood beside them quietly for a second.
"You disappeared for three days."
Gevran turned to her, unreadable again.
"I needed to breathe. And come back stronger."
Rowoon studied him. "You look different."
"Still me," he said. "Just… less lost."
Rowoon smiled faintly. "Good. Because I think we'll all need that version of you in university."
He raised an eyebrow. "We?"
Rowoon sipped her drink, her eyes twinkling. "Let's just say… I got into Seoul University too."
Jimin made a choking sound. "Oh boy. I'm calling it now—campus couple 2026."
Both Gevran and Rowoon threw napkins at him.
