It's early in the morning, but chaotic. " Laija, why didn't you prepare for the trip yesterday?" my mom scolded me while helping me pack my things. I regret not doing it tomorrow. I couldn't do anything properly, I was in a rushed. I got scolded by my mother in the morning. Great.
When I reached, they almost left. I was huffing from all the running. I entered the bus but was greeted by criticism. Mary said, " Why do you always drag us down?" Her strong belief was that I would drag down every group program.
The teacher entered the bus before I could say anything. She left to sit on her seat. I sat next to Maipakpi. Then she said, " Was her deal?" " Dont you know that bitch ( female dog ) likes to bark" I answered. I think Mary heard it, she looked at me, but didn't cause a scene. I smiled at her. She looked back, looking annoyed. Maipakpi didn't drag the conversation and changed the topic.
I don't talk in that kind of tone very often. I liked to dismiss trouble. Not long ago, I refused to believe that I had changed, but I realised this kind of environment had made me change. Surroundings really do matter. I was changing slowly, so I failed to notice. Humans changed according to the environment. They will adapt to survive.
I thought to myself that today was not going to be great either. We arrived at the first destination, but my words were proved wrong; it was pretty fun.
Everything was great, but every time I saw Mary, it was like a volcanic eruption inside me. So I tried to stay away from her all the time. And spent time with Maipakpi and Linthoi.
We went from one destination to another. Finally, it was lunchtime. I waited for this for too long. I sat down with Maipakpi and Linthoi. And called Jane and Thaja. They called Mary, who came unwillingly cause she didn't want to look bad. Which obviously she used to her advantages.
When we were having lunch, conversation started flowing, I wasn't paying much attention until Mary said something, " Unlike others, I only stick to my friends and don't change friends often." I don't know what the conversation was about that she added it. But the conversation flows naturally. It was about a girl I don't even know.
When we finished, we cleared the place up and separated to check out new places. I went with Maipakpi and Ningthibi. After walking for some time, Ningthibi asked, " Laija, is Mary angry with you?" I would have answered that question until I saw Tyler and Victory.
I was lost in thought. I thought I didn't love him, but why do I get distracted by him? Actually, I'm angry at myself. Why love a boy who doesn't love you? Then I slapped my mind and said to myself Get a life, he isn't yours.
" Are you okay, Laija? You look lost," Ningthibi said. I replied, " I'm fine, don't worry about me. And about the question you asked, Mary is... I don't know how to describe her behaviour, but I know that she doesn't like me at all. Let's see how long it takes her. I know her too well. After some time, she'll come pretending like nothing had happened. Then we'll become friends again, and the cycle continues. And I don't know why I can't do anything about it."
We would have talked more, but a street stall caught our attention. There were snack souvenirs and much more. Maipakpi starts picking snacks while Linthoi admires other things. But a necklace caught my eye the most. I picked it up, and I really like it. I bought it. When I wore it, it didn't suit me at all, but I still like it. Its color was blue like the sky. I didn't know why, but it gave me a refreshing feeling.
We have just started walking when Ningthibi excused herself to the washroom. After some time, she came back. She was gonna say something, but the teacher called us first. We sat in the bus, I sat near the window, and Ningthibi started telling me what she heard between the talk of Tyler and his friend. After hearing it, I was disappointed.
" Tyler, looks like Laija has stopped chasing you," one of his friends said, his name was Thoiba. " Good for me, have you ever looked at her. She has no standard, she doesn't even know how to take care of her looks. So noisy." Tyler answered. And then another one of his friends, " Are you sure? Well, Laija, Mary, Jane, and Thaja are known for their beauty in this school, and Laija is the topper of our school."
I knew that instant that he didn't like my bubbly personality at all. It isn't just him, everybody hated it except some. My voice is too loud, oh, sorry, but I was born with it. I don't take care of my look, well, I'm lazy. And I'm fine being just the way I am.
I said to Ningthibi, " I feel so frustrated that I want to knock off his head." Then she reassured me, " You'll fine better than him." I looked out the window, and I said, " Our next destination is the ancient monument, right?" "Right," Maipakpi answered, just sitting nearby. We were passing through a jungle. Even though we were in the middle of a jungle, the road was nicely built.
I was excited, I was waiting for this whole day. I continued looking out the window, then a bus caught up to us. At that instant, I felt I had seen the most beautiful pair of eyes. He was reading his book, then he looked up, my world stopped, and I fell into another world. Everything became quiet. My eyes were locked on his, and his eyes on me. He had blue eyes, clear and cool like the sky, which reminded me of the necklace I bought.
Then suddenly my whole life played in front of my eyes. Before I knew, everything turned black. My body was fighting for survival. I heard someone call my name. Strangely, I felt comforted, and I was slowly walking towards it. It whispered, " By the degree of my master, I choose you."
