Chapter 42: Dinner Politics

Back at the Ye family estate, Ye Wenbo ended yet another call.

Ye Wenjia sat opposite him with crossed arms. “You actually came back.”

“You heard Gu Fenyi’s call?” Wenbo asked warily.

“I did.”

Another call came in. He declined without a glance.

“Are you skipping Shi Chengbin’s party?”

“You’re one to talk,” Wenbo snapped. “Aren’t you skipping your film shoot?”

Wenjia sighed. He’d lost track of how many days he hadn’t worked. He rarely cared for the set, but this was new.

“I just don’t want to go,” he muttered.

“Same.”

Wenjia narrowed his eyes. “Aren’t you afraid Shi Chengbin will stop inviting you?”

Wenbo looked back, unimpressed.

The room grew tense.

It wasn’t just the two of them. The Ye household was rarely harmonious. Servants had long learned to keep their heads down during these cold wars.

Footsteps interrupted the silence. Gu Fenyi appeared, dressed in a comfortable home outfit. The maid called out, “Madam, dinner is ready.”
