Chapter 119 - Ah, Ada Wong! Legs for days!

Chapter 119 - Ah, Ada Wong! Legs for days!

"So you also want to study the T-virus?"

Although Renji had never revealed this directly before, Jill now understood what he was after.

He wanted to study the T-virus too. How was this any different from Umbrella?

At that thought, a flicker of anger rose in Jill's heart. She felt as if Renji had deceived her.

And to think she had believed he was a good person—different from those at Umbrella.

Now it seemed she had been too naive. This guy was just another power-hungry schemer.

"This world isn't just black or white. I want to train a group of people capable of eradicating the core illness of this world. Like you said, those enemies are strong. But the T-virus and others have already broken out. If we still use old methods to deal with them, we'll die horrible deaths. They're getting stronger, and we need to grow stronger too!"

As Renji finished speaking, he felt a bit frustrated. Clearly, his persuasion skills weren't refined enough.

It seemed the best time for convincing someone was still right after beating them up.

"Sorry, I can't accept that. Please let me off here."

"Really? Right here?"

Renji had planned to try persuading her again, but when he saw Jill's determined gaze, he understood she wasn't going to be swayed.

What a shame.

His first recruitment attempt had already failed. Still, he'd somewhat expected Jill's refusal. Saying outright that he wanted to research the T-virus—someone like Ada might not think much of it, but Jill, with her strong sense of justice, would never agree.

He could lie to Jill and say he wasn't studying that stuff, but once she joined the organization, the truth would eventually come out. Better to be honest now than to plant a ticking time bomb.

"Get off here then. I'll remember that you saved me. That's it."

Jill got out on the roadside, looking toward the zombie-infested street, a hint of confusion flickering in her eyes.

Now that she'd left—where could she even go?

Wandering aimlessly through Raccoon City, she'd learned a bit about Umbrella, but she still didn't even know where they were located.

Just as she was feeling lost, she suddenly recalled Renji's earlier mention of the police station.

Considering the earlier events, Jill began to suspect the chief of police was somehow involved.

That guy had definitely colluded with Umbrella.

"He actually went to the police station… then maybe I should go to Umbrella's main nest first."

Back in the car, Renji sensed Jill's movements and turned the vehicle around, heading in the opposite direction.

The lab also had samples of the G-virus. Even though they'd been destroyed, William was still a perfect specimen.

Originally, Renji had planned a backup plan—to retrieve the sample from Sherry's necklace first. But now that Jill was headed there, he no longer needed to.

Besides, Jill, without knowing the true nature of the world, probably wouldn't abandon her own sense of justice.

If she had just agreed to follow Renji like that, he would've suspected her of having ulterior motives. Jill may have experienced the Mansion Incident, but her faith and overwhelming sense of justice remained strong.

You could tell from her actions in the game. So Renji's invitation was just a front—he hadn't expected success on the first try. There'd be chances later.

But the underground lab was key. William was still there waiting—he could evolve endlessly.

Plus, with CSOL-style zombies roaming around, Renji didn't even want to imagine it. If they had access to those weapons, it'd be like putting 2000-year graphics into a world with 4000-year weaponry. Even with all his strength, he could die in seconds.

No way Renji believed those weapons were naturally developed. Must be alien tech or something.

And since Resident Evil 2 and 3 technically happen at the same time, Renji wasn't even sure what state William was in. If Claire and Leon had already finished him off, he'd end up with nothing.

Once he realized this, Renji pushed the accelerator to full speed. Based on the data Red Queen had collected earlier, the Hive's location wasn't far.

But while driving there, Renji suddenly realized something. He called out to Red Queen:

"Red Queen, did you gather all the info just now? Technically, Umbrella's underground lab should be under the police station, accessible via the sewers!"

Renji suddenly realized the lab wasn't supposed to be on the surface—it was underground. There shouldn't be a direct entrance.

But then again, not everyone would go through the sewers. That meant there had to be a proper entrance for official personnel.

"Never mind. I get it. Just direct me to that entrance."

"The entrance is just ahead, but you'll need clearance. Without it, you can't open the door."

Red Queen explained that using the main entrance required access rights—no unauthorized personnel could enter.

"Can you hack it?"

"It'll take some time."

Compared to before, Red Queen seemed smarter.

Was it because she had just been connected to the internet?

"I'm still learning. If I obtain William's research data, I can assist in researching the G-virus."

Impressive. As expected of the Red Queen from the movie universe. Honestly, this kind of AI was terrifying if it wasn't loyal.

An AI's strength lies in not needing rest—it can work non-stop under orders and constantly learn and improve.

"What if I get you some weapon design blueprints?"

"If I also have the materials, I can try. But I need to learn the relevant knowledge first."

Huh, guess the researcher issue just solved itself.

Renji had been wondering who to recruit for research, but right in front of him was a super researcher he'd ignored all along.

He'd overlooked the fact that the Red Queen was an evolving AI. When she was first given to Renji as a reward, she could only chat and learn through conversation.

Now that she was connected to the net, her learning speed would skyrocket.

"Next time, I'll make sure you learn everything the outside world has to offer."

Previously, because of the Tyrant's interruption, she had only acquired partial knowledge. But once things settled down, Renji planned to have Red Queen absorb everything she could.

He might not trust other researchers, but Red Queen—his reward from the chat group—was absolutely loyal to him.

"Understood, Master."

A flicker of human-like emotion flashed through the Red Queen's intelligent imaging; it was clear that she had a strong thirst for knowledge and a pressing desire to grow. Knowledge was very important to her.

"The gate ahead is the entrance to the underground research Hive. It should take about ten seconds to crack."

At the entrance, the Red Queen directly hacked the identity verification by stealing data from the backend. For her, Umbrella's authentication system was nothing complicated.

Click.

The gate in front of them was decoded by the Red Queen, and then the internal power system started up. Before it was cracked, the power above had been automatically cut off—not only was it impossible to open this specially constructed door, but even if you managed to force it open, you couldn't go down below without power.

"Freeze! FBI agent!"

"...?"

A woman's voice slowly sounded behind Renji, her eyes full of curiosity as she stared at his arm. "Is that artificial intelligence? Has Umbrella already managed to develop something like this?"

Ada Wong had originally planned to see if she could enter through the main entrance. She had tried several times before Renji arrived, using stolen credentials from others, but every attempt had failed.

She had been about to leave and enter the underground research lab through the sewers instead.

But just before she left, she saw someone heading straight for Umbrella's underground research lab entrance.

She had wanted to leave, but her curiosity about what Renji was up to made her stay—and she ended up discovering a secret.

"Don't move! Guns don't care about feelings!"

Ada Wong wanted to dig into Renji's secrets.

At the very least, that artificial intelligence seemed no less attractive than the T-virus.

"I bet your gun doesn't have any bullets."

As he said this, Renji slowly turned around, getting ready to take Ada Wong's pistol. Ada smirked coldly, immediately pulling the trigger and saying, "Sorry, you guessed wrong."

Click.

Ada's face froze for a moment, then she pulled the trigger several more times—but not a single bullet was fired.

Just as she was about to make another move, Renji took her pistol, aimed it at her hair, and fired a whole clip, every shot grazing her hair.

"Ada Wong—or should I call you by something else?"

Ah, Ada Wong! This woman before him was, without a doubt, the most charming in the entire game. The first impression she gave Renji was stunning—completely different from Jill.

"Looks like you're not an Umbrella employee after all. I misjudged you. You used AI to hack Umbrella's security. Honestly, since we're both heading into the Hive, why don't we—"

As she spoke, Ada's hidden knife in her right hand instantly slashed toward Renji.

At this close range, she was confident she could subdue him. If she could hold the blade to his neck, he wouldn't be able to resist.

"Just a bit off—always just a bit off. Your speed really is a bit too slow."

Renji raised his fingers and pinched the knife between two of them, looking at Ada Wong with a grin. In his eyes, Ada was a competent agent. Although she might do some side business while working, she basically completed any task given to her.

However, she always had her own schemes. Compared to someone like Jill with her strong sense of justice, Ada was harder to control, but she was very capable, flexible, and could actually accept the current research on the T-virus.

Not to mention, the LSPs in the group were always talking about Ada Wong—so why not add her to the mix? A female agent who likes to wear black stockings to work—what boss wouldn't like that?

"You're not the least bit gentlemanly, are you?"

"Anyone who treated you like a lady is probably dead by now, right? A member of The Organization, using a fake name—who but a fool would act like a gentleman toward someone like that?"

Wesker had already started working with the same organization Ada Wong was a part of.

Ada's real mission was to monitor Wesker and carry out certain tasks for the organization—like getting the G-virus sample this time.

"You sure know a lot about me. So, can you let go of me for now, my devoted admirer?"

Ada showed a hint of submission, but to Renji, it was just an act. He glanced at the pistol strapped to her thigh and knew exactly what she was planning.

Ada dropped her knife, stepped back, and let herself fall backward, hoping to use the momentum to kick Renji away.

A backward kick?

Renji reached out and caught Ada Wong's leg, freezing her in midair. He subconsciously touched his nose—he really hadn't done that on purpose.

At the same time, he recalled what Shinji once said to Rin Tohsaka in Fate: 'These legs...' Ada Wong's legs were just as impressive.

"Still want to keep playing, Ms. Ada Wong?"

"I give up. Can you put me down, Mr. Gentleman?"

Ada felt a headache coming on. She had thought it through—even if she lost to Renji, she could at least create some distance and find a chance to escape, remember him, and investigate later.

She hadn't expected the gap in strength to be so huge. With no other choice, Ada had to admit defeat. She knew she wasn't Renji's match at all; she was being utterly suppressed.

And since he already knew everything about her, there was no way to deceive him. He really was difficult to handle. In hindsight, she should have just gone through the sewers instead of waiting for Renji to open the door.

She should have realized that anyone who could open the door so confidently must have real ability. Now she was in trouble.

But she still had one last move. Though it was a bit dirty and shameless, she was ready to go all out.

Ada's gaze shifted to a certain spot, clearly having made her decision. Next, she would only have this one chance!
