Chapter 3: The Other Chosen

The fire portal twisted reality as Kaito stepped through it, like walking through liquid flame. He braced for heat—but instead, a chilling breeze welcomed him on the other side.

He emerged into what looked like a massive obsidian arena, surrounded by jagged mountains under a blood-red sky. Black banners bearing strange runes flapped in a wind that carried whispers.

He wasn't alone.

At least a dozen others stood in the center of the arena. Some looked dazed, others calm, a few outright hostile. Each had the same eerie red glow in their eyes—just like Kaito.

Bael's voice echoed across the arena.

"Welcome, Contractors. You've all made your pacts. Some for vengeance, some for power, some... just for fun. I don't care why. What matters now is what you do with the system I've gifted you."

A system prompt appeared before Kaito's eyes.

> System Update

Multiplayer Interface Unlocked

Ranking Board Activated

PVP Arena Access Granted

A tall girl with silver hair and a long crimson scarf stepped forward. Her arms were folded, her gaze sharp.

"Is this going to be one of those 'survive to the top' bloodbath games?" she asked dryly.

Bael grinned. "Eventually. But for now, consider this orientation. You'll be trained, tested, and upgraded. The Mortal Realm isn't ready for you yet. You'll tear it apart too early."

Kaito glanced around at the others. A bulky guy with a jagged axe. A quiet boy in a hood, who hadn't stopped muttering to himself. A woman with sharp claws instead of hands. They were all... off. Dangerous.

But then he caught a pair of eyes watching him from across the group.

A dark-haired man with a scar over one eye. His system interface shimmered faintly—he was hiding it. Skilled. Experienced.

And familiar.

Kaito's eyes narrowed. Renji Kuroda.

One of the people who betrayed him in his past life.

The bastard was here too.

Renji tilted his head, a faint smile tugging at his lips. He didn't recognize Kaito—yet.

> New Objective:

Train. Grow. Survive.

And when the time comes... settle old scores.

Kaito clenched his fists.

He wasn't just reborn for revenge.

He was reborn to win.
