The Spire trembled with energy as the Contractors were summoned to the central chamber. Kaito stood in a ring of molten stone, surrounded by the others—each of them scarred, twisted, or sharpened by their own battles. Above, massive glyphs glowed in a dark red sky.

Bael's voice echoed like a god's whisper:

Kaito's interface flickered as names appeared beside his.

He glanced to his right as Serah stepped forward. Silver-haired and scarred beneath one eye, she radiated cold confidence.

"I hoped you'd end up on my team," she said, voice like a blade. "You don't flinch."

Kaito nodded. "You're ranked second. I'll try not to slow you down."

Malik Voss joined them next—shirtless, heavily tattooed, his fists wrapped in flame. "We move fast," he said. "Or we burn."

Without warning, the floor split and dropped the trio into a maze of shifting walls and searing traps. Lava oozed through the cracks like veins of the earth's rage.

Serah snapped her fingers, conjuring crimson chains from the air.

"I'll bind the flame spirits. You two clear the way."

Malik cracked his knuckles, eyes glowing. "Done."

Kaito activated Infernal Instinct, and the world slowed. He dashed ahead, slicing down a fiery wraith with a flaming arc of his blade. Serah's chains wrapped around a lava spawn, pulling it apart mid-scream. Malik leapt, fists blazing, and shattered a molten guardian in one strike.

They moved like a single weapon—precise, efficient, ruthless.

The deeper they went, the hotter it got. Even the air burned in Kaito's lungs. But they didn't stop.

Until the path opened into a vast chamber where a giant eye of flame pulsed at the center—guarded by a four-headed infernal beast.

"Final test," Serah whispered. "Let's make this fast."

Malik roared, leaping forward as the beast lunged.

Serah's chains flew out like lightning.

Kaito closed his eyes for half a second. Then he charged, blade burning with black fire.

Outside the maze, Renji stood on a cliff, watching a projection of the battle unfold.
