She leaned into him and closed her eyes. He leaned forward and rested his forehead against hers. They sat like that for a while.
Then she said, "Do you think we will ever be free?"
He shook his head. "No."
She opened her eyes. "Then let me feel something tonight."
He kissed her. Not fast. Not hard. Just enough to remind her that he was real.
They did not speak again for a while.
They moved slowly. Their clothes came off piece by piece. No rush. No noise. Her skin was warm. His chest was cold. Their bodies touched like they were learning each other all over again. Like everything outside the tower had stopped.
When he kissed her shoulder, she held his face in her hands. When she kissed his neck, he whispered her name like it was the only word he could still remember.
They lay down on the mat Leo had left behind.
