The Unfinished Conversation

Chapter 8: The Unfinished Conversation

One afternoon, Nicole stopped Erica outside the library. "Can we talk?"

Erica hesitated. "What's left to say?"

Nicole sighed, running a hand through her hair. "A lot. But I know you don't want to hear it."

She was wrong. Erica wanted nothing more than to hear every explanation, every apology, every reason why she should let herself hope again.

But she shook her head. "It won't change anything."

Nicole stepped back, her expression unreadable. "Maybe not. But it would mean something."

Erica clenched her fists, fighting every urge to stay. "Not enough."

And with that, she walked away.

She told herself it was for the best.

So why did it feel like she was breaking all over again?
