Night time.
Inside a certain two-story oto repair shop.
A man stood at a second-floor window, holding a crossbow. Whoosh—a soft sound of wind slicing through the air rang out. An arrow pierced straight through the head of a wandering Zombie outside the door.
"Perfect."
The man wore a baseball cap. His name was Tu Trach Duong.
An amateur marksman, he liked to spend his free time at private shooting clubs, practicing with bows and crossbows. Though far from professional, he was much better than the average person.
Outside the door, two Zombie were wandering.
The distance was a bit close.
He loaded another bolt, aimed at the remaining Zombie, targeting its head.
Biu!
Squelch!
Another perfect shot pierced the Zombie's head, black blood splattered and blended into the darkness.
"Done. Two small Zombie, easy work." Tu Trach Duong lifted his cap and turned to look at the other three people inside the room. "The nearby small area, the wandering Zombie on the road, we've cleared them out pretty well. But the ones inside those store fronts… they're not so easy to deal with."
They had been staying here for a while—this place had become their base of operations.
Close combat with Zombie was extremely dangerous. One small mistake, and you'd be overwhelmed.
That's why, for long-range fighters like him with bows and crossbows, life was a bit easier. Clearing out nearby Zombie was just biu biu—one bolt, one kill.
"Let's leave those ones for now," said Lao Mao, a slightly bald man.
On the first floor, they stored their steel beast, and the second floor was their living space.
"I've finished distributing the food. We can last about seven more days. Water supply is fine for now. The city's water plant hasn't run dry yet. Normally it should've stopped already, but I think someone might still be manning the plant." The short-haired girl spoke up.
They didn't dare act recklessly. The number of Zombie in Hoang city was far greater than expected.
The ones wandering the streets weren't the scariest. What really terrified them were the Zombie hiding inside stores, jumping out while they searched for supplies.
Fast. Strong.
Their attack range was very small. Tu Trach Duong's archery hadn't reached the level where he could calmly headshot while panicking.
Yes, you could use a blade to chop off a Zombie's head—but it was extremely difficult. One mistake and the outcome could be fatal.
So scavenging for supplies was basically gambling with their lives.
Even with guns in hand, truth be told, they didn't dare shoot freely. The loud noise could attract a tide of Zombie. Once surrounded, it was certain death.
During this time, they had seen a few other survivors.
Mad.
Completely mad.
To survive, they had gone insane. They had also encountered a gang of criminals—ruthless people who robbed others of supplies and killed without mercy.
It wasn't that Hoang city had no supplies.
But where there were supplies, there was danger. These survivors had grown up in modern society. Physically, they weren't nearly as strong as one might imagine. Facing even one Zombie was extremely tough.
But robbing from others was far easier.
And they were extremely unfriendly toward women. Many men let their primal urges explode, brutally attacking women. Even if the women resisted, it was useless. In this lawless apocalypse, who could stop them?
Of course, some women had no choice. They had to rely on men, letting themselves be taken—just to have a bit of protection.
Suddenly—
Boom!
A loud explosion rocked the area.
All four of them turned pale and rushed to the window, crouching down and peeking out to see what was happening.
They saw a fireball erupting from a nearby building.
They knew that building housed a criminal group—six people in total. They had crossed paths before. Just one look and it was clear: those people were completely unhinged. Fortunately, their steel beast and the Zombie around them had deterred the gang from attacking.
"What just happened?"
"No idea, but it's definitely not good. An explosion that loud… the surrounding Zombie will all be drawn here."
Roar!
Roar!
Snarls echoed.
Zombie swarmed in from all directions, emerging from the shadows.
Seeing this, Tu Trach Duong's face went pale. "Damn it, what the hell were they thinking? Making a scene like this at night… it's like the whole city is crawling with Zombie!"
The short-haired girl frowned. "It was probably them. With that kind of explosion… maybe a gas line blew?"
"..."
Everyone fell silent.
What kind of Zombie could've pushed those psychos into doing something so reckless?
If they had survived this long, they'd definitely have adapted to the apocalypse. They should've known how to avoid Zombie. There was no way they'd risk fighting head-on.
As they were talking—
A piercing scream rang out.
"Ahhh! Help! Help me!"
"Shit! What the hell is that monster?! What the hell is that?!"
From the darkness, several figures sprinted through a narrow alley.
Running at the front was a man, his face filled with panic. Before he could even react, a massive shadow loomed behind him—a Zombie over two meters tall smashed him against a wall with one hand.
His head hit the wall with a crack.
Splurt—his skull shattered instantly, blood staining the wall.
A giant-type Zombie had appeared.
This Zombie was massive—broad shoulders like two huge lumps of meat, arms and legs thick and muscular, wrapped in dark black veins. Ferocious. Terrifying. Incredibly strong, with explosive power.
Tran Phi had been leading the escape.
Who would've thought they'd run into a monster like this?
Since the apocalypse began, he had quickly adapted. From the initial panic, he had even started enjoying it a little.
This chaotic world was paradise for someone like him. On the second day, he killed a neighbor upstairs—not for any reason. Just because, back in peacetime, the neighbor had reported him once for being loud while drunk.
He held that grudge.
Now, with no laws to bind him, he could do whatever he wanted.
He found five other like-minded men and started roaming the apocalypse like warlords. As long as they avoided Zombie, life was easy.
That morning, they caught a woman. That night, all six of them had planned to take turns "having fun." But the woman dared to fight back. Afraid of killing her too early and ruining their fun, they hadn't gone all out.
The woman's screams attracted Zombie.
And not just any Zombie—this was one they had never seen before.
At first glance, they knew it was trouble. Normal doors couldn't stop it.
Looking back…
His teammates were tossed around like tofu—some slapped aside, some thrown into Zombie hordes.
Tran Phi trembled.
He didn't know if he would survive.
But no matter what, even if he only had a 1% chance, he had to try. Ahead of him… there was another group.
If he could lead the Zombie toward them—make them the new target…
Maybe… just maybe…
With that thought, he pushed his body to the limit. It was like his legs had motors. He sprinted with everything he had toward the other group.
Thud!
A Zombie burst out and tackled him to the ground.
"Game over."
That was Tran Phi's last thought as he hit the ground.
