Chapter 38

  Serena's POV.

I stood before the rival pack's entrance, my face hidden behind a veil. The journey took me three days and two nights. I took a deep breath, hoping my plan wouldn't backfire. With a steady hand, I pushed open the door and slipped inside.

I made my way to the kitchen, where a bustling crowd of cooks and servants scrambled to prepare the day's meals. One of the cooks spotted me and barked an order.

"You, take this food to the guards!"

I nodded, my heart racing as I reached for the tray. But just as I was about to take it, a shrill voice cut through the air.

  "Stop! Who are you?"

I froze, my throat constricting as I swallowed hard. This was harder than I thought.

"A...a maid," I stammered, trying to sound confident.

The woman who had spoken stepped closer, her eyes narrowing.

"Obviously, you're a maid," she said, her voice dripping with skepticism. "But I'm asking, who are you?"
