Kade was awake. Injured, but awake. Selena's claws had gone deep and it took quite some time for him to start healing.
"Drink this," I muttered, handing him a cup.
He sniffed it. "Smells awful."
"It'll help."
He sighed but took a sip. Immediately, he gagged. "Mira—this is poison."
I rolled my eyes at his exagerated reaction. "If I wanted to kill you, I'd do it in your sleep."
He smirked. "Good to know."
I ignored the warmth in my chest and focused on wrapping his wounds. Today was Selena's trial. I should have been getting ready for it. Instead, I was here, dealing with a stubborn Alpha who refused to rest.
"Are you going?" Kade asked after a moment.
I hesitated. "I have to."
He was quiet. "You don't have to stay till the end."
I looked at him. His golden eyes were serious. He knew how much Selena hated me. And he knew this trial would be hard to watch.
I nodded. "I know."
