The air in Seraphina's room was thick with tension.
She had just learned that her entire existence, her bloodline, was tied to a prophecy a prophecy she could barely understand. And now, standing before her, Darian's words seemed to hang in the air like an unspoken truth she wasn't ready to face.
He was looking at her with eyes that had seen too much, that knew far too much.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper, still stunned by the revelation.
Darian's gaze softened, and he stepped closer. "I couldn't. You needed to be ready."
"Ready for what? To destroy everything?" Seraphina's chest tightened as she took a step back. The weight of her mother's letter the warning of enemies in disguise, the curse on her bloodline was suffocating. She was starting to feel the edges of it closing in on her.
"No," Darian said quickly. "You don't have to destroy anything. But there's a war coming, Seraphina. A war that has been building for centuries. And you…" He stopped himself, looking at her with a strange intensity. "You're the only one who can stop it."
"Stop it?" she repeated, her voice faltering. "How?"
"I don't know yet." Darian's expression grew more serious, his eyes narrowing as if he were trying to see through her. "But there's something about you. Something different. And I think your powers are awakening. You just don't realize it."
Seraphina froze. Powers awakening?
She hadn't felt anything… nothing beyond the pain that had struck her at the Masquerade, but.....
Her thoughts were interrupted by a cold gust of wind sweeping through the room. The candles flickered, casting strange shadows along the walls. Seraphina glanced toward the window, where the night sky seemed to shimmer with an unnatural glow.
Darian's face went pale.
"Seraphina, don't move," he ordered, his voice sharp and urgent.
Before she could ask what was happening, the room around them seemed to shift. A low growl echoed from somewhere outside the window, followed by the unmistakable sound of claws scraping against stone.
Seraphina's heart skipped a beat. What was that?
Darian grabbed her wrist, pulling her back toward the wall as the air seemed to grow colder, darker.
"They're here," he whispered. "The ones who've been tracking you. They've come."

The Attack
A loud crash shook the window, and the glass shattered in an explosion of ice and wind. Seraphina barely had time to react before a dark figure leapt through the opening.
The creature was tall, its skin as black as night, with glowing red eyes and jagged claws. It looked like a demon, but there was something unnatural about it—something that didn't belong in this world.
Before she could take another breath, Darian moved in front of her, drawing a silver blade from his side. The weapon gleamed under the dim light, a symbol of ancient magic.
"Stay behind me," Darian growled, his body tense and ready for battle.
Seraphina's pulse raced as she stepped back. She didn't know what was happening, but she couldn't just stand there. She was no weakling. She had to do something.
"Darian, wait!" she called out, trying to make herself heard over the creature's growls.
But he didn't look back. His focus was entirely on the demon that was circling them, its eyes never leaving Seraphina.
"Get ready," Darian muttered. "This won't be easy."
The creature lunged, and Darian swung his blade, narrowly missing it. The demon's claws scraped against the walls, sending sparks of magic flying through the air.
But Seraphina wasn't watching them anymore.
She was staring at the shadow on the floor—the growing, swirling shadow that seemed to be responding to her presence. It stretched toward her, like an invisible force pulling at her very soul.
She gasped as a surge of energy flooded through her. A burst of power—a power she had never felt before, but one that was now coursing through her veins.
Her hands trembled as she instinctively reached out, the energy pooling at her fingertips.
"Stop!" she shouted, her voice stronger than she had ever expected it to be.
To her shock, the shadow seemed to freeze. The demon paused, its red eyes narrowing as it sensed the shift in the air.
Darian turned, eyes wide. "Seraphina—"
Before he could finish, the demon surged forward again, but this time, the shadow reacted.
With a snap, the creature was thrust back by an invisible force, crashing into the wall with enough force to crack the stone.
Seraphina stood frozen, staring at the space where the demon had been.
"What… What was that?" she whispered.
Darian's voice was filled with awe and something darker. "That wasn't you. That was… your power. It's awakened."

A New Power
The room fell silent as the demon, now lying unconscious on the floor, slowly started to dissolve into mist.
Darian stepped forward cautiously, his eyes never leaving Seraphina. "That wasn't just magic. That was something... ancient."
Seraphina swallowed, trying to process everything that had just happened. "I don't understand. How could I have done that?"
"I don't know," Darian said, shaking his head. "But it's a part of you now. And we need to find out what it means."
"Who sent that thing?" she demanded, her voice sharp. "Why was it after me?"
Darian took a deep breath. "I don't know. But we can't stay here. This is just the beginning. You're not safe here anymore."
Seraphina felt a chill settle deep into her bones. "Where do we go?"
Darian looked at her, his expression conflicted but determined. "We go to the Hidden Temple. It's the only place that might have answers."

The Hidden Temple
Later that night, as Seraphina packed a few belongings in a bag, she couldn't shake the feeling that the world was shifting beneath her feet. Her powers were awakening—but why now? And who were these enemies who sought to use her for their own purposes?
"Are you ready?" Darian's voice broke through her thoughts.
She nodded. There was no other choice now. They had to leave, and fast.
But as they stepped out into the darkness, a figure appeared in the distance—cloaked in shadows. The air hummed with power.
The figure's voice was cold and familiar.
"You're running, Seraphina. But you can't outrun your destiny."
