Chapter 5 – The Leader and the People
A week had passed, and Kent had finally managed to work through the towering stack of documents in his office. With each piece of paper he completed, more and more curses escaped his lips. "If I had Malcardor here, everything would be much easier!" he muttered, glaring at the never-ending pile of work. Every curse word in his vocabulary seemed to come out one by one, as if his anger alone could finish the task at hand.
After hours of staring at the documents, Kent felt drained. He rubbed his forehead and, in his mind, felt the strong urge to take a break, to get some fresh air, or at the very least, to see what was going on outside. "Maybe I need some fresh air, or just to see how things are going out there," he thought to himself.
As he walked through the capital, Kent was greeted by warm smiles from the people he passed. Everyone, from merchants to children playing, greeted him respectfully. Kent paused briefly in a crowd to chat with them. "How are you all doing? Is your life prosperous under the Empire?" he asked, his tone caring.
The people, with honesty in their voices, replied that they were very happy and proud to be part of the Empire. "We feel safe, Emperor. We feel protected, and our lives have improved since the Empire arrived in our world," said an elderly citizen, her eyes sparkling with hope.
Kent smiled faintly. However, there was something inside him that he couldn't shake—a feeling of emptiness. "Are they really happy, or do they just feel comfortable because someone is in control?" he thought quietly to himself.
Without saying much, Kent continued walking, hearing the laughter and joy of children playing soccer in the park. He joined them briefly, sitting on a bench and starting to tell them heroic stories from the Warhammer universe. Stories of soldiers' bravery, of Cadians who never retreated even when facing waves of enemies, of Sanguinius, the angel who fell for humanity, of the courage of the Ultramarines and the Astra Militarum as they fought against Chaos, Xenos, and every threat that came their way.
The children listened eagerly, their eyes sparkling with excitement, while the parents sitting on the edges of the park simply smiled proudly, watching their children and the Emperor. They knew that, although there wasn't much they could do, their children would grow up to be soldiers who were ready to defend humanity.
"And one day, you will all be great warriors, just like the Cadians. You will protect humanity, fighting against any threat that comes," Kent said, smiling at the children around him.
With excitement in their voices, one child sitting in front of Kent said, "We will be soldiers! We will protect humanity from any threat, and we are proud to do so!"
Kent nodded gently. His heart felt a little lighter, though the burden of leadership weighed heavily on him, as he carried the hope of so many. As the evening drew near, Kent said goodbye to the children and continued on his walk. He saw many troops practicing on the training grounds. That sight brought Kent some peace, though the question lingered in his mind—was the Empire he had built truly for the welfare of all?
While walking towards one of the buildings, Kent happened to cross paths with Saint Celestine, one of the renowned figures from the Adeptus Sororitas. In the past, when he was still playing the game, he had admired the loyalty and prowess of this unit, but seeing her in real life made him somewhat uneasy. "What if they meet the angels from the Super Seminary universe?" Kent wondered to himself.
He imagined a scenario where Saint Celestine, stern and religious, confronted Kesha, Hexi, or Liang Bing—the three powerful angels from the new universe he had created. It wasn't hard to imagine Saint Celestine, with her fierce demeanor, shouting, "Heresy! You must be purged in the name of the Emperor!"
Kent bit his lip, trying to stifle both laughter and the unease that began to rise within him. "If that happens, it would cause a huge mess. Saint Celestine, with her harsh style, would probably consider those angels a threat to the Emperor's teachings. Chaos. Pure chaos," he thought, shaking his head.
But deep down, Kent knew that in his Empire, there would be many things that challenged the order he had established. He smiled faintly and continued his journey, contemplating how the Empire would evolve further—of course, with many obstacles and challenges ahead.
One thing was certain, though: Kent could no longer be a leader who simply sat behind a desk, signing documents. He needed to be more involved, more connected to the lives of his people, and most importantly—more prepared to face an uncertain future.
