Messages sent by falcons are common on this continent because they are a fast and secure means of communication, but the arrival of one of these messages from the kingdom of the Elves was very unusual.
The news spoke of a visit by Elven representatives, including the crown prince, warning of their friendly arrival in the next seven days, which meant that the Elves would take twelve days to arrive from the time of their departure and the sending of the message. It takes five days for a falcon to travel from the Elven kingdom to the herd. They did not specify the reasons, but spies stationed throughout the continent had reported that the elves had suffered repeated attacks from Antraxs on their borders.
It was no secret that the elven kingdom had never been attacked by monsters in the last five thousand years, as its borders were too far away to be targeted by such evil creatures, and some species had been exterminated by the elves, but with all the recent events and attacks, Caspian could guess that this was the reason for their visit.
The kingdom of the elves and wolves had never had any problems or wars with each other, but neither could it be said that their relationship was loving. Both peoples were strong, dominant, and extremely proud.
In this world of wolves, there were ten packs, all led by their respective Alphas. There was no category of Alpha King, unlike the elves, where there was a king at the head and his descendants would take the position of king by right of lineage.
In the case of the shape-shifters, the strength of each pack could be defined according to the strength and attributes of each Alpha in command. The elves chose to visit the Blue Moon pack because, in their opinion, they considered it to be the strongest pack on the continent. Its Alpha, despite being young, was the strongest shape-shifter of all, in addition to his great intelligence and excellent strategic abilities. His superiority over the Alphas of the other packs was evident.
"Seven days!" said the Beta. "That leaves us very little time to respond. We need to organize a meeting for the rest of the packs, and seven days is too little time."
"We'll have to organize it anyway," said the Alpha. "You will make the preparations. We will summon all the Alphas. Some of them are only a day away, but the others who are farther away will take at least five days to arrive at a fast pace. When the Elves arrive, we will see what they want. In any case, the meeting of the packs will have to take place with or without the Elves present."
After discussing a few other important matters with Beta and Gamma, Caspian headed to the training yard. He needed to relieve some stress and get Luz out of his mind for a few hours.
Everyone knew how powerful and strong the Alpha was.
Cas tested his training with ten of the best shape-shifting warriors, ordering them to attack him all at once. They fought fiercely together against the Alpha.
At first, the training ground was full of men and beasts practicing their fighting as they did every day. Little by little, they left their posts and began to surround what looked like an uneven contest, except that the odds were stacked in favor of the Alpha.
"Attack with everything you've got!" Caspian ordered. "I swear that if you don't obey, you will be punished."
Ten against one, they attacked their Alpha savagely, both in their human and wolf forms, in hand-to-hand combat and with weapons such as daggers and swords, which they repeatedly tried to thrust into the Alpha's body without success.
The unbridled Alpha fought only with his hands, gradually wounding his warriors. They would not die, and their recovery as werewolves was quick, but that did not mean they did not feel pain after each injury. Some received blows that fractured their ribs, but they would be fine after a day without the healer's help and only half a day with healing magic.
"Give me something harder!" the Alpha shouted.
The ten excellent warriors were on the ground, defeated and in terrible condition. The Beta was informed of the bloody scene and arrived just as the last warrior fell wounded.
"Alpha!" Beta shouted to get Caspian's attention. "I have something urgent to discuss with you."
When the Alpha left, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. This testosterone frenzy only happened when the Alpha was upset or stressed about something. They prayed to the goddess Selene to have mercy on them so that the Alpha would calm down in the coming days.
Xioma took the Alpha to the side garden of the pack, knowing that no one ever went there.
"Cas, as your friend, I need to know what's going on with you. I'm worried about your behavior in recent days. You seem impulsive and distracted. I know something is bothering you, and I don't think today's spectacle in the arena was just because of the Elves' visit."
Cas remained silent, staring at the Beta, who had his back to the garden gate.
In the distance, an unexpected visitor interrupted their conversation. The scent in the air made the Alpha's heart race. He saw Luz entering the garden. Their eyes met, but she quickly turned away, frightened to see the Alpha. He wanted to follow her, but he held back.
The change in Cas's face made the Beta turn his head, allowing him to see Luz quickly leaving the place.
"She's afraid of me," said the powerless Alpha in a dejected voice.
"You're worried about that? Since when have you cared about what the human feels? "The Beta always felt the need to get rid of the creature because, not knowing how her people treated her, he didn't trust her and simply wanted her to disappear.
To which the Beta added, "Tomorrow I will prepare another trip to the forest to send the human far away from here. I don't care if she finds her way back to her village or if she falls prey to the beasts of the sector.
"She can't go, I won't allow it!" exclaimed Caspian.
Cas's eyes filled with pain, a suffocating tightness gripped his throat, and he began to gasp for air.
"Cas, what's wrong?" Xioma was genuinely concerned.
In a low, choked voice, the Alpha replied, "You don't understand, I will never let her go, she is mine, she is my Moon.
A cold wave ran through Xioma's body, and with amazement and disbelief, he asked for more information.
"On the night of the Moon Festival, I knew the time had come, I felt that my mate was near, and I went to meet her. When I saw her, I knew immediately that she was the one, I have no doubt about that. When I approached her, she didn't reject me. I immediately felt that intimate connection. I never thought the bond would be so strong. I could tell she felt the same way. It was amazing, but the moment I spoke to her, everything changed. When she heard my voice, she recognized me as her attacker. I could smell her fear and see the terror in her eyes. She asked me not to hurt her. Can you believe it? She asked me not to hurt her! I could never hurt my Moon. I wish I could turn back time. What happened in the cell was a mistake, a terrible misunderstanding. I could have killed her. Shit! You don't know how bad I feel. I could have accidentally killed my Moon, and now she's afraid of me, and rightly so.
Cas paused his monologue, breathed a sigh of resignation, and continued his story.
"Last night I left her alone. I didn't want her to reject me. I can't lose her, I just can't, and I don't know what to do to fix this. I haven't been able to sleep since then. I can't get her out of my head. I need to get her back, but I can't force her. Tell me, Xioma, what can I do? What should I do?" The Alpha, clearly upset, held his head in his hands.
Xioma was even more shocked than before. This was completely unexpected. This was what was troubling his friend. He really didn't know how to help him, but they would have to find a solution. Everyone knew that Moon was too important to lose.
"Does anyone else know about this?" the Beta asked him.
"No, I've only told you."
"All right, we'll keep it a secret, but we'll have to tell Cristian since we must prevent the human from trying to flee to the forest. Cas, Aliana is closest to her, we could ask her for help."
"I don't want to bother her with this right now, I need to think of something, but for now, let's leave Aliana out of this. I just need to be sure that Luz doesn't try to escape."
"We'll keep an eye on her and keep her safe. We'll let you know if anything important happens," the Beta assured his Alpha.
