A wolf always watch from the shadow

Inside the sleek, high-rise building of Yue Corporation, silence reigned in the CEO's office. The late afternoon sun cast golden rays through the expansive glass wall, warming the polished floors and the minimalist yet elegant décor. Jiang Yue sat behind her massive desk, the surface nearly immaculate except for her phone and a few neatly stacked files.

She lowered the phone slowly after ending the call with LiWei. Her expression, calm and unreadable, lingered for a moment before a faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips. But it vanished just as quickly as it came.

A soft ripple moved through the air behind her — silent, unseen.

She didn't look up. "You can speak."

From the shadow in the corner of the office, a figure materialized without a sound. Dressed in a black cloak that seemed to absorb light, his face hidden beneath a mask bearing a single fang insignia, the man kneeled on one knee.

"Lady Jiang," he said, voice as smooth as velvet but cold as steel. "As instructed, I followed the young man, LiWei."

She turned slightly in her chair but still didn't face him fully. "Report."

"He visited a man named Uncle Qin. From their conversation, he learned about the debt that led to his father's injuries. Despite trying to hide his intentions, the boy sought out the gang responsible. Alone."

Jiang Yue's eyes narrowed. "And?"

"He found them. Confronted them. And… Lady Jiang, the boy possesses strength far beyond a normal human."

There was a pause.

"He displayed reflexes, speed, and raw power

Jiang Yue's brows twitched faintly, her voice even. "Go on."

"He left them unconscious. Not dead.

"Good." She finally turned her gaze to him, her golden eyes glinting. "Anything else?"

"Yes. On his way home, he encountered a hunter—Ms. Liang, in the company of another male hunter. The man was harassing her. LiWei stepped in and defended her, claiming she was his girlfriend to deter the other. The hunter tried to retaliate, but LiWei... subdued him as well. Cleanly. No scene."

Jiang Yue stared ahead at the skyline outside the window for a moment.

The shadow bowed his head again. "Do you wish for me to confront the hunter?"

"No," Jiang Yue said quietly. "This is my responsibility."

"As you wish."

"For now… continue watching him," she added. "Only interfere if he's in danger he cannot handle."

The figure nodded. "Understood." He faded back into the shadows, vanishing as if he was never there.

Jiang Yue exhaled slowly and leaned back in her chair, staring up at the ceiling. "How did you do it LiWei… but he is not showing the signs of a woflin" she murmured.

The Next Morning

The sun was already high when LiWei finished washing up. He stood before the mirror, drying his face with a towel. The events of yesterday still clung to his mind like fog.

That strength… it had come out of nowhere. One second, he was furious. The next, it felt like his blood had caught fire. His hands had moved faster than his thoughts.

He shook his head. "Nah. Just adrenaline. Has to be."

Dressed in a casual black hoodie and jeans, he checked the time and grabbed Jiang Yue's business card from the drawer. He hesitated, then slipped it into his pocket. It was still weird, all of this. The bite. The weird dream. Her suddenly appearing.

He made his way to the upscale café where she had scheduled their meeting.

It was a serene spot with soft music and indoor plants scattered tastefully around. The scent of roasted coffee beans and vanilla filled the air. Jiang Yue was already seated in a private booth near the window, sipping what looked like herbal tea.

She glanced up as he approached. "You came."

He rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah. Uh, good morning."

"Sit," she said, gesturing. Her voice was calm as always.

LiWei slid into the seat across from her. An awkward silence passed for a few seconds.

"So…" she said at last, resting her chin lightly on her fingers, "what changed your mind?"

He looked away, trying not to sound stupid. "Well… I just… thought about it and realized… I don't have anything better to do?"

She raised an eyebrow. "That's your reason?"

He nodded seriously, then shrugged. "Yup. Thought I'd be generous. Help the rich."

There was the tiniest twitch at the corner of her mouth. "A noble cause."

He laughed nervously. "Glad you see it that way."

Without pressing further, she produced a document folder from her bag. "This is the agreement.

He scanned it briefly. Standard coaching contract. The pay was generous. He tried not to show how surprised he was. With a pen she slid over, he signed it.

"It starts tomorrow," she said.

He nodded. "Cool." Then after a pause, his curiosity got the better of him. "Can I ask something?"

"Go ahead."

He tapped the table. "Why is your company's logo a wolf?"

Jiang Yue tilted her head, a curious glint in her eyes. "Because a wolf is never just what it seems."

LiWei blinked. "Huh?"

She smiled, and this time it wasn't the cold, CEO smirk. It was something more mysterious, deeper. "Wolves may walk alone… but their eyes are always on the pack. They're hunted, yet feared. Beautiful… yet dangerous."

He swallowed. "That's… poetic."

Jiang Yue sipped her tea. "Maybe. Or maybe just practical."

He had no idea what to say to that.

"Anyway," she said, standing up, "thank you for coming."

"Yeah, no problem."

She nodded once, then turned to leave. As she walked toward the exit, LiWei remained seated, his eyes trailing after her.

She was definitely something else.

But more than that…

Why did it feel like she was watching him, even when her back was turned?
