No matter how delicious the cake is, if you eat too much, you'll get tired of it.
By the time I had eaten a third of it, I was already feeling overwhelmed.
But I took it one small bite at a time, carefully chewing, afraid to miss the proposal ring inside.
The whole cake was eaten, and my stomach felt bloated, making me uncomfortable as I stood up with a grim look on my face.
It's already one in the morning, the sky outside is pitch black, and Song Ye still hasn't replied to my messages.
I couldn't help but make a phone call, the first went unanswered, and the second finally got through.
There was a hint of reproach in Song Ye's voice:
"I've just finished working here, you haven't slept yet?"
"I just finished eating, I ate the whole cake, and now I'm still at the restaurant."
Song Ye didn't ask why I lingered until now, he immediately instructed:
"It's too late now, don't go back by yourself. I'll have Secretary Zhou come to pick you up later."
After he finished speaking, the call ended abruptly.
Twenty minutes later, Secretary Zhou's car arrived. I tiredly got into the car, Secretary Zhou glanced at me, wanting to speak but hesitating.
Sleepily, I yawned: "What do you want to say?"
"Mr. Song's work is already finished for the evening." Secretary Zhou carefully chose his words, pondering how to express them:
"He personally drove Director Gu home."
The night wind was a bit cold, the heater was on in the car, but I still felt uncomfortable.
I curled up, feeling somewhat better.
Song Ye went to take Gu Anya home, but handed me over to the secretary.
Secretary Zhou drove steadily, and before long we were home. I was so sleepy I couldn't open my eyes as I opened the car door, stumbling a little, almost falling.
Secretary Zhou helped me up.
He suddenly asked, "Miss Ye, did you like tonight's dinner, gift, and cake?"
"I liked them." I nodded, my eyes a bit sore; whether it was the setting, music, fragrance, dishes, gifts... everything was what I loved.
I didn't realize that the greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment.
Secretary Zhou helped me through the villa's main door: "That's great, Mr. Song entrusted me with full responsibility for arranging this event, I was afraid something would go wrong, or be overlooked."
It turns out none of this had any of Song Ye's thought in it.
A cold wind blew, and suddenly I wasn't sleepy anymore, standing there with goosebumps all over.
